Good Fences #14 - An "Ordinary" Fence

Well it's mid-day here and I'm late for the party but better late then never.

So please join me as I join Theresa (The Run-a-Round Ranch Report) for GOOD FENCES

We have this fence that borders the back portion of our property with the back neighbor.  It's an "ugly" fence put up by a former neighbor who just HAD to have 2 feet of land that she never did a doggone thing with other then let weeds grow up and clutter up the already cluttered back yard even more.  So we tore down the chain link that was there originally so she could build a wooden fence and regain that 2 feet of land she felt was rightfully hers.  Which it was a part of her property but no one who had lived there before she moved in ever cared about the fact we were using the space for a small garden.  They just accepted it and everyone was happy until she came along.

Here is said wooden fence:

It was raining today when I took these shots.  Nothing really exciting as you can see.  It's old and weathered now and starting to fall apart.  Hubby did the little patch there you can see in the center of the fence.

Of there are some interesting boards on the fence if you use your imagination:

This one reminds me of Dino the Dinosaur from the Flintstones!

So what about this one?  - Look at the board to the right of the photo.  What does it remind you of?  I'll tell you what I think it looks like at the end of the post.

For the most part it's a pretty boring fence, although the squirrels love to run across the top of it and occasionally a cat sits on it as well.

Yesterday I was outside looking at our flowers that we have planted in front of the fence and something "unexpected" caught my eye.

This lovely little "wild flower" that we did not plant was blooming.  How pretty is that!  So see even when you least expect it life can turn something boring or plain into something beautiful.

Now for what I see in the 3rd Shot.  The right side of a Great Dane dogs face.  Did you see the same thing?

We were thankful though for the ugly fence though as we didn't have to look at the mess of a yard that old neighbor kept.

Have a great weekend and thanks for stopping by.

Checking In

Hello everyone.  I thought I would pop in briefly today to let you all know how things are going.

Last week was such a BUSY week.

Monday - Bridal Dress Shopping
Tuesday - Bowling
Wednesday - Doctor Appt. for my mom, Registering Coleen for Swimming
Thursday - Bible Study

Friday - Early Friday morning at 3:00 am our phone rang.  It was my mom.  She had somehow lost her balance in the bathroom and fell.  Thankfully Coleen had been spending the night and was able to get the phone for her
"Granny" so she could call for help.  We got her up and calmed down and then I took her to the ER.  Thankfully nothing was broken but she was pretty bruised up.  -  Spent most of the rest of the day resting and looking in on my mom.  Coleen & Greta left in the afternoon to go pick up Kelly and then stop in to visit her other Great Grandma in Idaho.

Saturday - Mike left in the early am to ride his Harley up to visit his mom in Idaho as well.  Things didn't go so well.  His bike broke down halfway there so he spent most of the day waiting in a roadside park for Greta to bring a U-Haul trailer so they could bring the bike home.  A very long day of waiting back at home as well.  They arrived safe & sound about 8:45 that night.

Sunday - Pretty calm actually.

This week Coleen started her swimming lessons so I'm busy hauling her to lessons every morning.

Wedding plans coming along.  Helping my mom with chores she isn't up to doing yet and hoping to someday blog again on a regular basis.

Thanks for your patience and understanding.  I miss you all.

Good Fences #13

Hello everyone!  Yes, I'm checking in today and actually posting for Good Fences.

First let me say,  Thanks to everyone for their good-wishes and positive thoughts in regards to my daughter's up coming wedding in August.

Plans are coming along.  We "Found the Gown" on Monday so that's one more thing checked off the list of things to do still.  Let me just say planning a wedding in only 2 months is not easy but we are getting there.

So now back to my fence shot.  Coleen and I went to Fort. Walla Walla a few weekends ago for an event there.  We stopped at the Cemetery there and I photographed the gate leading into the cemetery.  It's been welded open (which I thought was odd) but what caught my eye was ....

Well I think you could probably figure it out.  That bent portion was quite fascinating.

Here is Coleen next to the other side of the gate.

If you look at the background you will also notice that the cemetery is border by a nice new modern looking fence as well.

Be sure to stop by Theresa's blog, (The Run-a-Round Ranch Report) to check out all the other great fences.

I will try to stop in at your blogs and check out your fences/gates as well.

Have a great weekend.

Blogging Break

Hello my dear friends and fellow bloggers.  Yes I am still alive (and well).  Life has taken a different turn in the last few weeks though and I'll be taking a blogging break for a few months.

My daughter is getting married in August and being that we only have between now & the 16th of August to put together a wedding for her most of my time is being devoted to wedding preparations and plans.

I will pop in from time to time to visit your blogs and perhaps maybe even do a post now & then but if you don't hear from me please know that you are in my thoughts and I will be back blogging full time once the wedding is over.

Thanks for your patience, understanding & friendship.

Scavenger Hunt Sunday and Song-ography, June 8, 2014

I will be joining in today on SCAVENGER HUNT SUNDAY hosted by Ashley (Ramblings and Photos) and also SONG-OGRAPHY hosted by Kathy (You'll Shoot Your Eye Out.)

First up for the hunt:  The prompts:  Denim, Light, Watch, Perspective, Fuel.

I'm going a little out of order here because I want to use one of the prompts as part of Song-ography as well.

LIGHT:  This was the sunset here on Monday the 2nd after Coleen's Piano Recital.

I love everything about this photo.  The light was just amazing.

WATCH:

Hubby was husking corn and it caught their attention.  (Snickers in the back, Spooky-boo on the Left and Harley on the Right.)

I also have another one for this as we went to a street concert tonight and these dogs were there with their owners (watching) the concert.  I'm not sure this fellow was enjoying the music though.

PERSPECTIVE:

From Eric the cat's perspective here I'd say the world was upside down!

FUEL:

Part of one of the exhibits at Ft. Walla Walla.

DENIM:  (This is also part of Songography) where the Song was, Chicken Fried by Zac Brown Band.

~A Pair of Jeans that fit just right.

(You can see mine are well loved.  The darker ones are brand new jeans that hubby just bought.)

"It's funny how it's the little things in life
that mean the most
Not where you live or what you drive
or the price tag on your clothes
There's no dollar sign on peace of mind
this I've come to know."

Have a great day and thanks for stopping by.

Random 5 Photos & Follow Friday for Fill-In Fun

Welcome.  Thank you to everyone who has stopped by and left comments lately and checked in to see how I was feeling.  Earlier this week I caught a bit of a (stomach bug) so I was not feeling great for a couple of days.  I'm doing much better now.

So this week for my Random 5 Photos (not yet seen on the blog) I've foregone the "quotes" and just simply want you to enjoy the beauty of the photos.

Some of these flowers are my own flowers, some are my mom's and some were taken around town.  No matter where they were taken they show of the beauty of God's great creation.

Good Fences and Good Cookies

Hi,  Today I will be linking up for Theresa's GOOD FENCES post and also something new that I just joined.  FILL THE COOKIE JAR.

Please note my Good Fences photo's will follow right after the cookies.

This months cookie theme for Fill The Cookie Jar is:  Dad's Favorites.
Now I don't really know if these were my dad's favorite cookies or not.  My dad had a "sweet tooth" for just about any kind of cookie, cake, pie, dessert...well you get the picture.  I bet if he was around today he's say his signature phrase:  "There's only one thing wrong with these cookies.  There's not enough of them!."

However in the case of these cookies there are plenty of them to be found with this recipe.  It makes 6 dozed cookies so be prepared for a full cookie jar for sure if you bake these.

Crisp 'N Crunchy Cookies.

 Ingredients:
1 Cup Sugar
1 Cup Firmly Packed Brown Sugar
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking soda
1 Cup butter or margarine, softened.
1 Cup Cooking Oil
1 tsp. Vanilla
1 Egg
3 1/2 Cups All Purpose Flour
1 Cup Rolled Oats (I used the Quick 1 Minute oats)
1 Cup Flaked Coconut
1 Cup Crisp Rice Cereal (which I accidentally left out in the one's I baked today and just now realized but they turned out okay anyway.)
1/2 Cup Chopped Nuts (I used chopped pecans)

Oven Temp: 350F
In large bowl, combine the first 8 Ingredients.  Beat 2 minutes at medium speed until smooth.  Add flours; beat 1 minute at low speed.  Stir in remaining ingredients.  Drop by rounded teaspoonfuls, 2 inches apart onto ungreased cookie sheets; flatten slightly with the bottom of a glass dipped in sugar.  Bake 10 to 14 minutes or until light golden brown.  Yields, 72-84 cookies.
These are great to dip in milk for those of you who like to dunk your cookies.

Join in the fun by checking out the other participants.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So let's join Theresa for GOOD FENCES now.
This is the fence that borders the outside area of the local dog park.  I just love all the fun colorful dog cutouts.

Notice the little sign to the left of the dog:

This one was the closest to our little Pug, Cricket who loves to go to the dog park but wasn't with me this day as I took these photos right after my dental appointment last week.  The dog park is located near my dentist so I took the camera along to get these shots.

That's it for today.  I hope to get around to your blogs but since I've been sick this week I've fallen a little behind.  I will do my best to catch up over the weekend.

Guest Blogging Today

Hi,  I've been a bit under the weather this week and haven't been on the computer much.  I just wanted everyone to know that today I am a Guest Blogger over on The Enchanting Rose hosted by Stephanie.  She is such an inspiration and a wonderful person.  I was delighted that she allowed me to share on her blog today where I'll be speaking a little about my love of cats and one very special cat.  Please stop by and check out Stephanie's blog and my post as well.  Have a great day.

Before I go here is a kitty photo not yet shared on this blog.

Meet Gwen (the black cat) and Richard (the Tiger Striped cat).  They also belong to the people who own Eric who has been featured here on this blog a lot.  They stay close to home while Eric roams about now.

Scavenger Hunt Sunday - June 1, 2014

Welcome.  It's time to join Ashley (Ramblings and Photos) for SCAVENGER HUNT SUNDAY.  This weeks prompts:

Make Mine A_________, Quirky, Morning Ritual,
What Were They Thinking, What's in your_______

A couple of my photos are "archive" photos but I just couldn't get all the prompts in this week otherwise.

MAKE MINE A____________

Piping Hot Fresh from the Oven Slice of Pizza....Enough Said1

QUIRKY:  I'm pretty sure I've never shared this before but in case I have please chalk it up to (a senior moment).

On of the many "Quirky" frog statues/figures in Milton-Freewater, OR know for their (Muddy Frogwater Festival).

MORNING RITUAL:  Does Anyone Remember This SHS entry?  Well I realized this morning that I had never shared the Tea Cup shot so since many people enjoy a morning cup of tea as part of their ritual I thought I share this with you as promised in the previous entry:

WHAT WERE THEY THINKING:  Yesterday I took Coleen to an event at the local Community College.  They had lots of activities for kids and one of them was a tour of their Water Facility where they are raising Lamprey Eels and Mussels.  Here is a shot of Coleen and the gal who was giving the tour.  I'm not sure what Coleen was telling her but I love the intense look she has on her face.

WHAT'S IN YOUR________

Mouth...in this case Coleen is inside the mouth of a Giant Salmon.  One of the displays at the Return to the River Salmon Festival that we attended yesterday.
