Wild Bird Wednesday - Capturing a 1st.

Today I am super excited in joining Stewart (Paying Ready Attention) for WILD BIRD WEDNESDAY.

Last Wednesday after Coleen got out of school we went up to Rooks Park and I walked up to Mill Creek to take some pictures.  As I was walking towards the creek I spotted something white flying in the air but I couldn't see what it was nor where it went.  I happened to spot a guy with a camera looking towards where I was but still could see what he was looking at.  He was on the other side of the bank and I watched him and his dog walk on up the trail.  Then I turned and headed in his direction and it was then I spotted this:

This was still pretty far off so I hurried on up the trail and told my daughter to head down and get Coleen so she could see the bird too.

As I got closer and closer I begin to take more & more pictures.

I like the way the geese here are standing.

Neat to get the geese, some ducks and the Egret in the same shot.

I think this may be one of my favorite shots I got of the Egret.

Now it's turned the other direction.

Seems to be checking the ducks out.

Coleen loves this shot.  She says it looks like they are "kissing."

I could have watched this bird all day.  At first I thought it was a (Snowy Egret) but upon looking it up I discovered this is referred to as a Great Egret or a Common Egret.  To me there was nothing "common" about it and I was thrilled beyond belief to actually see it and photograph it.

I hope you've enjoyed my photos of this 1st for me.

Songography (These are Days) and some Rubbish

Joining Kathy (You'll Shoot Your Eye Out) again for SONG-OGRAPHY .  This weeks song was one not familiar to me so I went and listened, (I liked) and then I interpreted....

I captured this pensive moment of Coleen last Wednesday when we went on another of our nature outings to Rooks Park.  I feel "blessed and lucky" to have this little girl in my life and to watch her "bloom and grow" into a young lady and someday a young woman.  She is indeed touched by something special.

Also joining Road (Rubbish by Roan) for RUBBISH TUESDAY.

While driving out of the park we happened upon this barn (or what's left of it) and I pulled over to snap some photos.

Poor tractor looks a bit neglected there in that pile of wood.

Be sure to stop by both blogs and check out the other participants.  Thanks as always for your visits and your comments.

Scavenger Hunt Sunday - Mosaic Monday

Welcome! -  I hope you have all had a wonderful week.  It was a nice one here.   Plenty to do and yet not overwhelming.  -  So now it's time to join Ashley from,
Ramblings and Photos for SCAVENGER HUNT SUNDAY. -  The object is to use the 5 "Prompts' given each week and find photos that match them and then post your photos.

This week the prompts were:  KEY, TRIANGLE, FAVORITE WORD, CELEBRATION and BEST.

KEY:  I have been dying to have a reason to use this photo.  Yes it was taken really early this year way back in January on one of the walks Coleen and I went on.  She spotted it and I took the photo.

Hanging above one of the Fraternity Houses on Whitman College Campus.

TRIANGLE:  (This will also be linked to MOSAIC MONDAY) over at Lavender Cottage.

I had so much fun walking around the neighborhood looking for triangles.

FAVORITE WORD:  -  This isn't necessarily my favorite word but it certainly is my favorite animal.

This is, Helix (not to be mixed up with Felix the Cat). He's another of the neighborhood cats that has adopted us.  Here he is climbing in my mom's Lilac tree.

CELEBRATION:

The bright colored costumes of these dancers who preformed at the School Carnival this week always remind me of a Celebration.

BEST:  I think Coleen is the "best" and this is one of the best swing photo's I've ever taken of her.

Thanks for joining me and if you are so inclined to try this out here are next weeks prompts:

  • 1. Autumn
  • 2. Leaves
  • 3. Boots
  • 4. Hot Beverage
  • 5. Game

  • Take care and have a wonderful day.

Willy Nilly Friday 5 and a little Cat Art

    Happy Friday!

Joining in with Tanya (Around Roanoke) for WILLY-NILLY  FRIDAY FIVE

    1.  Boy have I been enjoying the lovely fall weather we are having here.  It's still in the 70's during the day and mostly sunny so I've been able to get out and about and take pictures of stuff like this:

    2.  Here's a little something to amuse you if you have nothing better to do today.  http://www.bbc.co.uk/science/humanbody/sleep/sheep/reaction_version5.swf

    3.  We're 4 weeks into the Bowling League already.  Sadly my mom is not able to bowl with me this year.  I have a new bowling partner and she's fun to bowl with and mom goes with me to watch so it's all okay.  My average though not so great yet.  I've been all over the place with scores.  Out of 12 games for the 4 weeks I've hit a High score of 181 and a Low score of 105.

    4.  I've been practicing some Black and White photography this week.  Below are 2 versions of the same scene.  One in BW and the other Color.  Which do you like the best?

I see now that I moved over a little for the colored shot but you get the general idea.  Also if you have not visited this website yet and love Black/White Photography please check it out.  MONOCHROMIA

    5.  I had to go to the dentist this week.  Had a loose filling, bit down on some caramel corn, chipped a piece out of the tooth.  Needed a new filling, they suggested a Crown,  No more insurance benefits for this year so crown will wait.  This is what I say to that....

My entry for Feline Art Friday

    Good Fences - September 25, 2014

Welcome.  -  It's GOOD FENCES day.  Yep, it's time to join Theresa (The Run-a-round Ranch Report) for her super fun meme,  Good Fences.

Last week I featured some Chinese Lantern plants around a deep red colored fence.  While out on that same walk I found this vining over another section of red fencing and thought it looked pretty neat.

Further on the walk I decided to stop by the old unoccupied house that is basically over grown with all kinds of plants, weeds etc...and I shot some pictures of a little fence/gate area there.

I think this is a charming gate and just wish someone would buy this property and fix the place up as it's a real "eye-sore" in the state it's in.

Thanks for stopping by and don't forget to check out all the other great fences by stopping by Theresa's blog and clicking on the other particpants entries.  -  Have a great day!

Wild Bird Wednesday - Let's do the Turkey Trot

Joining in today with Stewart (Paying Ready Attention) for WILD BIRD WEDNESDAY.

My mom, Coleen and I took a drive last Saturday afternoon and low and behold some Wild Turkeys ran right out in front of us.  I quickly pulled over and snapped a few pictures of them and then we were on our way.

There were just six turkeys in this group.  Further up the road we spotted some more wild turkeys.

How many do you see here?  It was hard to get them all in one shot because they started moving into the brush very quickly.  We estimated there were about 15-20 turkeys altogether, though you probably can't see that many in this shot.

    Heading for cover.

    Blending into their surroundings.

    Heading up the mountain side.

Good-bye turkey's it was fun seeing you.

So let's do a little dance now in your honor.

    Have a great day.
