Songography-Celebrate Me Home and Scavenger Hunt Sunday - December 1, 2013

Well it's been a BUSY week here with the Thanksgiving holiday preparations and then the start of the Christmas season so I haven't spent much time on the old blog.  I'm joining in though for Songography and Scavenger Hunt Sunday.

It is time  to join Kathy, (You'll Shoot Your Eye Out) for SONGOGRAPHY where this week the song she's showcasing is,
Celebrate Me Home by Kenny Loggins.

The opening line of this song goes like this:
                                         "Home for the holidays,
I believe I've missed each and every face.
Come on and play my music,
Let's turn on the love light in the place."

Well to me home for the holidays means just that...Home where my family gathers to celebrate the season.  One thing that always reminds me of home during the holidays are holiday lights.  We love them...we put up LOTS of them.  My dad loved them and in his memory we make sure that our house and my mom's place next door light up the night with a lot of love.

Please join me now as we head over to Ashley's blog, (Ramblings and Photos) for SCAVENGER HUNT SUNDAY  -  This weeks prompts:  Starts with S,
Texture, A Blessing, Warmth, and I Went.

STARTS WITH S....for Silly and Stuffed Toy
There is this dog that walks by sometimes with it's owner and it always carries a stuffed toy of some kind in it's mouth.  It looks pretty silly (and doggone cute too) doing so.

TEXTURE:  I found the bark on this tree fascinating and it certainly has a lot of texture too it.

A BLESSING:  I think my hubby (Mike) and little granddaughter, (Coleen) are a blessing and more so this weekend for all their hard work in putting up the Christmas lights - Check out the top photo from Songography.  That's our place and my mom's next door all lit up for the holidays.

WARMTH:  I love the glow and warm feeling of candles...I don't know how much warmth they actually provide but they do give you a warm feeling inside when you see them burning.

I WENT:  For a drive last week to take pictures of whatever caught my eye.
Look what I spotted...

Well that's it for another week.  Thanks for stopping by and don't forget to check out the other participants.  You can find their links by visiting Kathy & Ashley's blogs.  -  Have a great week.

Songography - Blessed Edition and Scavenger Hunt Sunday.

Welcome!

Please join me for SONGOGRAPHY and SCAVENGER HUNT SUNDAY

This week Kathy (You'll Shoot Your Eye Out) offered us the song,  Blessed by Martina McBride.
Again a country song that I wasn't familiar with but this one I actually liked when I listed to it.

I am truly "Blessed" to have a wonderful family, a nice home to live in, food to eat, clothes to wear and time to enjoy the beauty around me.  Today I took a little drive and was able to capture some wonderful pictures.  Then on my way to the store tonight I saw that the sun was just starting to set and I knew that it was going to be a gorgeous sunset.  So I made a bit of a "detour" from the store and headed out on a country road so I could capture this:

Yes it is a beautiful world and I am truly blessed.

Please join me now as we head over to Ashley's blog  (Ramblings and Photos) for Scavenger Hunt Sunday.  The prompts this week were:
Horizon, Sharp, Leather, Blue and Diagonal Lines.

HORIZON:  One of the many shots I took on my little drive today.

There was a bit of haze over the mountains which is pretty typical for this time of year but I think they are still lovely.

SHARP:  Coleen and I stopped yesterday on our way for Yogurt so I could get some pictures and I knew exactly what I was looking for as I'd taken similar pictures of this very same thing last year but never posted them.  I decided to see if they were still there and sure enough they were:  Well new one's that is.

I'm thinking the thorns on these bushes must be sharp.

LEATHER:  Got my little model and did a small photo session of her Leather Jacket that her Grandpa bought her for Christmas last year.

BLUE:  Frost crystals on the Van's tinted window - Aren't they pretty.

DIAGONAL LINES:  This one was a bit tough but I think this counts...

Callie-Jo has diagonal whiskers.

Random 5 Friday

Hey it's FRIDAY!   - Time for some Random 5 Friday thoughts.

You can join in on the fun and find links to others random thoughts by popping over to Nancy's blog, (A Rural Journal).

1. They finally fixed the water leak in our street this week! - Yes, there has been a leak in the city water line for nearly a month now.  A steady stream of water bubbled up just past our driveway and down the curb.  Wednesday they finally came to repair it.  Of course they had to tear up part of our yard and the street to do so which meant having to park in the street for most of the day.  Trying to get around all their equipment when I wanted to go somewhere was a bit of pain in the butt but I managed.

2.  This week I lost my Cell Phone not once but twice within 2 days time.
Wednesday morning I couldn't find the darn thing and after trying every place that I had been on Tuesday (Bowling Alley, Restaurant, BiMart) I ended up calling my daughter to see if it fell out in her car since I was with her that afternoon.  -  Yep, that's where it was.  So I fetched it.  Thursday I go to get my phone and it's gone again.  - I finally realize the only place I had it on Wednesday after I had found it was the Clinic where I get my allergy shot. - Called there, yep someone found it in the Parking Lot. - Geez, maybe I need a cord attachment so I won't be dropping it out of my coat pocket all the time!

3.  I've decided that whenever something goofy like RF#2 happens or last weeks appointment mix up that heading to Starbucks for Coffee and a Pastry is a pretty good pick-me-up for feeling like a total dork about the crazy things that I get mixed up on.  - Yep,  had a Caramel Sticky bun and an Eggnog Latte (didn't care much for that one) and brought coffee and goodies home to share with hubby and my mom.

4.  I'm thinking of warm places this week.  You know, like the Bahamas, Jamaica, the Caribbean ....any place that's warmer then here because it's FREEZING cold right now.

5.  My niece's are coming to lunch today.  Their favorite meal for me to fix...Macaroni & Cheese!  These girls are in their 30's but whenever they come over that's what they always want me to fix.  So I'm off to the store to get the macaroni since I'm out.

Thought I'd leave you with a pretty photo of some trees with lovely afternoon sun before the cold set in.

Sugar Frosted Petals

Old man winter has arrived with some chilly temperature's expected here for the next few days.  It was only 20 degrees out this morning when I walked Coleen to school.  Brrrr.....I walked fast on the way home in an effort to stay warm.  I decided to see what kind of frosty goodness I could find in the yard and discovered the last lone rose blooming on one of my bushes had been dusted with a "sugar" coating of frost on it's petals.

Staying warm inside now with nice hot coffee and my little heater.

Songography - It's a Wonderful World

Welcome.  Once again I'll be participating in both Songography and Scavenger Hunt Sunday.  This week there will be 2 separate posts so be sure to click on the link to that post. - The links to the actual Memes will be below:

Please join me and Kathy from You'll Shoot Your Eye Out for SONGOGRAPHY  This weeks song,  It's a Wonderful World.  Kathy has chosen a version by, Playing for Change but the most common version is by Louis Armstrong.

 "What A Wonderful World"
I see trees of green,

 red roses too.

 I see them bloom,
for me and you.
And I think to myself,
what a wonderful world.

 I see skies of blue,
And clouds of white.

 The bright blessed day,
The dark sacred night.
And I think to myself,
What a wonderful world.

 The colors of the rainbow,
So pretty in the sky.

 Are also on the faces,
Of people going by,
I see friends shaking hands.
Saying, "How do you do?"
They're really saying,
"I love you".

I hear babies cry,
I watch them grow,

 They'll learn much more,
Than I'll ever know.
And I think to myself,
What a wonderful world.

Yes, I think to myself,
What a wonderful world.

Oh yeah.

Scavenger Hunt Sunday - November 17, 2013

Welcome!  -  Once again I'll be doing 2 separate posts.  One for Scavenger Hunt Sunday and the other for Songography.  Please click on the link to the Meme you wish to view.

The links to the actual blogs where the Memes take place will be posted below.

Let's join Ashley (Ramblings and Photos) for SCAVENGER HUNT SUNDAY.  -  This weeks prompts,  Pattern, Sunglasses, Round, Looking In and Crunchy.

PATTERN:  I love the different patterns on this house and also the pattern of the ivy growing up the side of it.

SUNGLASSES:  This one was hard.  We've not had enough sun for wearing sunglasses and I just wasn't feeling this prompt.  So I'm going to have to go with an "Archived" photo taken in May of this year.

ROUND:  How about a Merry-go-Round

LOOKING IN:  Another toughie (at least for me it was) - I wanted a picture looking in my mom's living room window where Piglet the cat was comfortable resting on the couch.  Turns out I got the cat but also reflections from her front porch in the window.  Not the greatest of photos but it's interesting.

CRUNCHY:  This one was my favorite photo of this weeks prompts.  I spotted some rather "crunchy" sunflowers while out on a walk.  With the added texture and quote I think it turned out great.  I hope you do as well.

Random 5 Friday

Good Day!  -  Yippee it's Friday.  So let's cut right to the chase and head on over to Nancy's blog (A Rural Journal) where we are once again posting
Random 5 Friday thoughts (minus Mr. Linky) so be sure to check the comment section for links to other people's blogs for their R5F thoughts.

1.  I've been trying to go for walks lately.  Why do I wait till the weather isn't that great to suddenly get the urge to exercise?  Anyway Monday afternoon Greta, Coleen and I took the dogs, Cricket and Pixie for a nice long walk. - All photos today are from that walk.

L-R  Cricket - Who wouldn't turn around. Greta (my daughter), Coleen and Pixie.  - They loved walking in the leaves.
Coleen enjoyed rolling down a hill.

2.  I bowled great on Tuesday (for a change)!  156-150-160  Always makes me feel great when I bowl three decent games.

3.  I went to the same dental appointment "twice" this week.  How you might be asking,  Well Wednesday I got up and after getting Coleen off to school I hurried home and headed off to my dental appointment.  Got there and said, "I'm here for my appointment."  -  The receptionist then proceeds to tell me (while trying not to laugh) that my appointment wasn't until Thursday!  -  I was positive that I had written it down for Wednesday.  Went home only to discover that I had it down for Thursday after all.

4.  Enjoy having coffee with my hubby after the 1st appointment on Wednesday that never happened due to the mix-up of when the appointment actual was.

5.  Getting ready today to work on making some Thanksgiving cards since I didn't send out Halloween this year and people were wondering what was wrong when they didn't get one!  Next will be Christmas cards,  I'd better be hustling with the card making.

Have a wonderful day and weekend everyone and thanks for stopping by.

The Golden Carpet of Autumn

This morning on my way to my dental appointment I spotted something that I just knew I wanted to photograph. And wouldn't you know it, I didn't have my camera with me.  (I know Debbie...never leave home without it.)   So I wrote down on a piece of paper where I saw what I wanted to photograph and when my appointment was over I went back home and got my camera so I could capture it.  CLICK TO ENLARGE

 It's a lovely Golden Carpet....

Of Ginkgo Tree leaves.  This is the oldest tree in existence.  Well not this particular tree but Ginkgo trees date back to pre-historic times.  They are so fascinating and so pretty when all the leaves fall (practically at once) forming a lovely Golden carpet.  -  I had a tree in mind to take a photograph of but when I went there the other day all the leaves had fallen and the people had already raked them up.  I was so disappointed but now I'm happy again having found this wonderful display.  I hope you enjoy it.

P.S. -  Had to drive back by this same place not more then 3 hours after this photo was taken and would you believe,  they had raked up the leaves!  So glad I got there when I did.

SHS and Songography (All Kinds of Kinds) edition. - November 10, 2013

Welcome!  -  Since this post isn't going to be super photo heavy today I'm combining Scavenger Hunt Sunday and Songography into one blog post.

Kathy (You'll Shoot Your Eye Out) hosts the
SONGOGRAPHY meme each week.  The object is to listen to the chosen song and then do a photograph depicting your interpretation of the song.  -  This weeks song was:
All Kinds of Kinds by Miranda Lambert.

Again I'm not a big fan of country music so I was not familiar with the song at all.  I did listen though and I've got to say the lyrics are rather weird but like the song implies...it takes all kinds of kinds to make up the world.

I had thought about going downtown and just photographing the tourists walking by because there certainly are all kinds of kinds when they are in town.  I didn't though because I would have felt rather weird taking pictures of strangers and trying not to be obvious about it.

Instead Coleen and I stopped by an Antique/2nd hand store and I took photo's of various people (not real ones, except for one) through out the store.  I've combined them here in a collage.

Yes the world would be a very dull and boring place if we were all the same.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

  Ashley (Ramblings and Photos) hosts,
SCAVENGER HUNT SUNDAY where each week you get 5 prompts that you take photographs of through the week and then post.  Lots of fun.

This weeks prompts were:  Table, I Collect, Music, Yes! and Someone I Miss.

TABLE:  Goodness I certainly didn't want to photograph our table, it's usually cluttered with stuff until we clear it off to eat.  Besides it's nothing all that interesting either.  So while at the antique store today I spotted a little coffee table that I like and here is the result.

I COLLECT:  Funny story about this one.  I collect Frog and Cat figurines (not so much anymore though as there is only so much room to display them) but I went to get some of my frog figurines that were packed away and when I opened the box that was marked, Small Frogs I found that instead of the frogs they were actually cat figurines!  I tried getting pictures of them but hate the lighting in our living room.  So I took one outside and while taking a picture one of our real cats pulled the front door open and I snapped his photo.  Because let's face it when you have 6 cats you may as well just say you, "Collect Cats.!"

MUSIC:  Saw some of the music sitting on my hubby's guitar stand and thought it looked cool.

YES! - Stopped at a bakery on the way to the antique store and heard this calling out my name.  I said, "Yes!"

SOMEONE I MISS - This was a hard one because I thought how can I do a picture of someone that I miss if they aren't around to take a photo of.  I didn't want to do a picture of a picture so instead I did a picture of a place that reminds me of the person.  This is Bennington Lake where my dad spent many an afternoon fishing when he was alive.  Every time I visit I am reminded of him and even though he's been gone nearly 16 years I still miss him very much.

“Love is stronger than death even though it can't stop death from happening, but no matter how hard death tries it can't separate people from love. It can't take away our memories either. In the end, life is stronger than death.”

Thanks for stopping by.  Have a great week and don't forget to stop by Kathy and Ashley's blogs and check out the other participants.
