Random 5 Friday and Orange You Glad It's Friday
It's been a few weeks since I've participated in Orange You Glad It's Friday so I thought I would pop in today with this:
I'm not even sure what this plant is but I thought it looked pretty cool. They were in our local park in one of the flower beds.
Now let's join Nancy (A Rural Journal) for Random 5 Friday.
1. I miss our trees. We had these 3 big fir trees in our parking strip and the squirrels always came and played on the trees and I left peanuts for them to eat. It was so fun watching them play. Sadly one of the trees begin to die after it was topped out by the city due to it being too near the power lines. Well this spring they came and topped out the other 2 trees. Needless to say they didn't seal the tops and we knew it would just be a matter of time before they would start dying as well. So last week we had them all cut down.
Too much sunlight in the windows now in the mornings, no shade for my front flower beds and no squirrels to watch playing out my office window.
2. The bug hit our house this week. Coleen had one of her friends over for a sleep-over Sunday night. Monday she got sick and we found out that the other little girl was sick too. Seems they caught that 24 hour stomach flu bug. Ick!! - Greta came down with it last night. - I'm hoping it passes me by and more importantly my 84 year old mom.
Yep this is how Coleen looked after a night of up-chucking.
3. I hate it when I can't find something that I know I've put somewhere that I should be able to find it. Only to be found when you least expect it. This week I discovered some missing ribbon that I've been looking for. The thing is I've been looking for it now for 2 years! I bought it to make Christmas cards with and couldn't find it in my craft room. After searching the room time and time again I just gave up on ever finding it. Then low and behold this week I had some ribbon out for my mom to look at. As I was straightening things up the tub of ribbon had gotten knocked over and when I started putting them back in the tub I noticed a full roll of red ribbon. I stopped to look at it more closely and wouldn't you know it, Yep, that missing 2 year old ribbon was right there all along and surely I must have seen it in the tub the first time I frantically searched for it two years ago (or maybe not)...perhaps some ribbon fairy whisked it away and decided it was time to put it back. Yeah, that's what happened.
4. I've had more time this week to visit blogs now that Coleen has wrapped up her swimming lessons. Still not getting by to comment on as many blogs as I'd like but am doing better. I want you all to know how much I enjoy your blogs and also having you pop by mine.
5. Got some new craft/stamping goodies this week. I'm starting to find time to do a little stamping again. It feels good. This one will be going to Coleen for her first day of 3rd grade on Sept. 3.
Details on the card can be found on my other blog: http://faithartistry.blogspot.com if you are interested.

I hope your family gets over that bug quickly! Those things can really knock you out.
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean about the trees. We love watching the squirrels in our trees.
Seems like I'm always looking for something I've misplaced! Glad you found your ribbon. Yep, I think it was the ribbon fairy. :-)
I've never seen that plant before. It looks like a cluster of small fruits.
ReplyDeleteColeen looked so tired in the photo. :)
Thanks for joining again. Have a wonderful weekend.
So sorry your girls caught the bug. Yucky! Hope it bypasses you & your mom. Too bad about the trees. We have some that are growing in some power lines that will have to come down. We didn't plant them though. They're volunteers :)
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend stamping and crafting!
It's so sad when the power company comes by and tops off trees. Part of me understands why they do that, but another part of me is so sad to see the trees so "man-handled". Sorry about the tummy bug .. hope everyone is okay now. I giggled reading your ribbon story. How many times have I looked and looked for something just like that. Fun card. I know your little girl will love it.
ReplyDeletePoor Colleen!
ReplyDeleteI hope that you are all feeling better soon. Sorry about your trees. They don't look very pretty. Perhaps the town will finish them off and plant some pretty new trees.
ReplyDeleteI've had that same little fairy with the bad sense of humor come by my house more times than I care to admit. I wonder if we could catch her and send her to a deserted island....
ReplyDeletePoor Coleen....and I pray neither you nor your mom get that awful bug!!!
Love, love, love the "back at it"....is that a card, a notebook? Whatever that is, it is too cute, cute, cute!!!
I haven't had much time lately either....and haven't blogged as much as I would have liked, and also haven't been to as many blogs as I would have liked...but I guess that's life, huh? Those lazy, freezing days of winter are just around the corner and we'll be stuck inside with nothing to do but go back and read everyone's posts from the summer. lol And we can wish it was summer again.
We have started school here too. And I hate sleep overs - the kids always get sick!!! That is my personal opinion. What kind of camera do you have? I want one! Great pics. sandie
ReplyDeleteHope Coleen and her friend feel better by now. Sorry that they caught that flue bug.
ReplyDeleteLove that unusual flower picture!
Hope your young one is feeling better. I know what you mean about finding something that you know is there but seems to elude you.
ReplyDeleteoh Ida, I so enjoy my visits here, I feel so much warmth and love. You seem to be extremely down to earth and we have many of the same interests!
ReplyDeleteThe orange berries are very pretty but I have no idea what they are. I do love the color orange and feel it is hugely overlooked!!
I enjoyed your five this week, I always do!! Has coleen seen that picture??
Flu bugs are not much fun, and I hear you about the ribbon. doesn't that just drive you nuts, knowing you have something...
ReplyDeleteI hope good health has returned to you household by now, Ida. And, yes, I hear you! The city/utilities/whatever have a way of wreaking havoc with trees. When we had big pine trees in the back, we wouldn't give them permission to whack them off. Then along came an ice storm and now no more big pine trees. Such is life.
ReplyDeletePoor Coleen! I hope she is 100% by now. I had to chuckle about your ribbon story. That has happened to me more times than I want to admit. It's a standing joke in our family.
ReplyDeleteYou made me laugh with your ribbon fairy story!
ReplyDeletePoor Coleen! I hope you and your mom avoid getting sick.
That sure is a shame about those trees.
Oh poor little patient - I hope she's doing better already! Your stamping is inspiring me to find my stamps and start doing some cards - lovely green shades in yours, and the back bag is very cite!
ReplyDeleteWhat is "matte of time" that you mention? Sorry for being a picky old lady! Love your blog - will be back!
ReplyDeletehope your little one feels better...I hate that crud. Nice post. Visiting from Random 5
ReplyDeleteWe had to cut a tree down a few years back it was a sad day. No shade my hosta's burn up now. I had to replant full sun plants so much fun.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed your randoms♫ Have a great week-end. My OYGIF: http://lauriekazmierczak.com/welcome-back-to-school/
ReplyDeleteSorry it was a week of sickness in your family. No fun! I really like the photo of the ribbons. It's colorful and appealing.
ReplyDeleteWhen we moved into this older house and I would misplace things I got to where I'd say it was Myrtle, the ghost, that did it. But, almost always, Myrtle would return my things and they were always in the right place.
ReplyDeleteI know how it is trying to find things ... glad you found your red ribbon. That will come in handy for the holidays.
ReplyDeleteI hope she's feeling better!! I have no idea what that plant is either, but I'm going to look out for them, they are really cool.
ReplyDeleteI don't know what the orange is either, but it's quite interesting!
ReplyDeleteI'm so sad about the trees and the squirrel. Hope the squirrel finds a new home in a tree that's far from the power lines. Hope Colleen is doing okay now. Love the ribbons. It's always the same in our house. We lose things only to find them when we're not looking anymore. We just think they're being "borrowed". Have you seen the movie "Arietty"? :)
ReplyDeleteVisiting here from www.maithankfulheart.com. Thanks for your visit.
