Ducky Derby 2024

Here today to share this year's Ducky Derby photos with you.

Sadly they did not race down the creek like normal.  - Instead they just dumped them out of the dump truck down what looked like a slip-n-slide with some water and then picked the winners out. The water level was to low for them to float down properly.

Worse yet was that we missed them even dumping the ducks. Normally they don't hold the race until around 1:00 or 2:00.  Apparently I did read the post that said they would be doing the dump at 12:00 noon. - So by the time we got there they we all out of the truck and it was hard to get any pictures.

Part of the pile of ducks that were dumped.  That's the only picture I took of the ducks this year.

The remainder of my pictures were of Jojo and Jupiter doing some of the activities that were available to do.

  Petting some bunnies.

Doing a ring toss game.  She was scared at first to try it.  They give all the kids a little prize even if they don't get the ring on the hook.

Sisters in front of the Duck Mascot.

Enjoying the tumbling activities.

Really enjoying the hot dog before we went home!

Didn't win any prizes (again)...people were complaining about that because a few businesses in town buy large quantities of tickets and generally win most of the prizes.  - It goes for a good cause and maybe just maybe you might get lucky and win.

Till next year that's it for this year's Ducky Derby photos.

Easter Part 1

Welcome!  - I'm up and running again with a brand new computer system.  It may take me awhile to get use to this as I accidentally published this post to the wrong blog and then deleted it so I had to start all over.

Every year the Exchange club puts on an Easter Egg Hunt at Pioneer Park.  This is the banner that was on the Gazebo.

Jojo (Joelle) waiting for the hunt to start.

The large duck from the upcoming Ducky Derby (May 18, 2024) was there.

Both the Easter bunny and the duck were available for photos but with such a huge crowd it was almost impossible to get one.

Candy, eggs and rubber ducks were all over the place.

Jojo wasn't afraid at all of heading out into the crowd to gather eggs.

Big sister followed her out along with her mom while I tried to keep up and get pictures.

This was just a small section of the huge crowd of people that were there. - I forgot to get a picture of Jojo with her basket of eggs but she had a great time and that's what matters.

Thanks for stopping by.  I hope you enjoyed this little slice of our life.

Ducky Derby 2023

 Welcome.

Another May event:  The annual Ducky Derby.  This was held Mother's Day weekend as well.  In fact that weekend 4 different events were held here.  You could attend all of them or pick and choose which you want to attend as they were all at different places and times throughout the weekend.

This year I don't have as many photos of different things from the Ducky Derby as it was way to HOT outside for me so I spent most of my time sitting in the shade.  Coleen/Jupiter took her little sister, Joelle (aka JoJo) around to do all the fun kids stuff.

The two sisters in front of the Big Duck

Izzy the Camel - JoJo did reach out to pet him.  Just didn't get a good picture as there were too many people in the way.

JoJo got a duck painted on her cheek.  She looks like she's about to cry here but she wasn't. - Her cheeks were already getting pretty rosy from the sun.
Waiting for the ducks to be released.
                                            And they are off!
The official photographer for the paper taking pictures of the ducks.
A sea of ducks racing toward the finish line.
Up and down they go on their merry way.
                                  Ducks and more Ducks
I always like to find one lone duck in a shot with a bunch of others ahead of it.  That's this years shot.

Normally I would have pictures of the ducks at the finish line but by then I was so hot I needed to just go home where it was much cooler so we didn't even stay to see the end of the race.

Once again none of my 5 ducks won but I'll try again next year.

Willy Nilly Friday Five - May 31, 2019

I'm Still Alive! - Wow an entire month has passed by and I'm finally posting.  Let me tell you all I really miss blogging but taking care of my mom has become pretty much a "full-time" job anymore so blogging kinda gets put on the back burner.

Anyway I'm happy to post today for Tom's:  WILLY NILLY FRIDAY FIVE
1.  I've been busy this month planting flowers and weeding etc... on of the things I did was refurbish this decorative dog that my mom keeps on her porch.  See how "sad" he looks.

Here he is all fixed up after I painted him.  Doesn't he look happy now!

2. Here's just a few of the many pots of flowers that I planted and put on her porch this year.

3.  Had to show at least one Lilac photo from my mom's tree.  It was loaded with gorgeous blooms this year and for a change it didn't rain and knock them all off the tree before they could finish blooming.

4.  While waiting for the "Ducky Derby"to start I snapped a few sky shots.  The annual Derby was held May 18 and you might think this is snow but it's actually fuzz off of Cottonwood trees.

Also happened to catch a plane on it's way to the airport.

5.  Coleen and her friend, Helen enjoying their walk up the path to where the race starts and of course some shots of the ducks on their way down the creek to the finish line.

Once again none of my ducks won any of the prizes.  I'll try again next year.

6.  Memorial Day picnic in my mom's front yard.  Lots of good food.

Bonus shots:

 Allium in full bloom.

Took this shot in the evening and happened to notice an orange lamp in the window of the house where I shot the allium so I leaned down and captured the orange glow behind the flower.  I think it looks really cool.

Pretty Peacock feathers at the park.

That's it for this edition.  Hope you have enjoyed the photos and have a great weekend.  -  Here's to June and Strawberry season!!!

Willy-Nilly Friday and Feline Friday - June 15, 2018

Welcome everyone.  Thank You to everyone who left comments on my (MIA) post from earlier this week.

Life has been so busy the last few months, some good, some not so good but all is well.

It's time for a little Friday Fun so let's join the party.

Tom (The Backroads Traveller) is hosting WILLY-NILLY FRIDAY FIVE

May flew by so quickly...lots of things going on.

1.

The annual Ducky Derby was held on May 19th and as usual I purchased my 5 ducks in hopes that one of them would make it to the finish line and I would win a prize.  Alas, once again I did not win.  - Oh well, it's all for a good cause.

2.  Hubby celebrated a birthday the next day (May 20) so there was birthday stuff to take care of.  Here he is blowing out those birthday candles.

 3. He took a 5 day trip back to ND to watch his oldest granddaughter graduate from high school.  While he was gone I went to the Wildhorse Casino again.  Took my mom along.  We didn't win but we didn't lose all our money either. - Better than that though was that a local store had a promotion that if you bought a $5 and higher Scratch ticket and it was a losing ticket you could put it in a box and have a chance at the end of the month to win free lottery tickets.  Guess what.........

I won!  There were 3 winners drawn.  I won 2nd Prize - A packet of 50, $10 tickets. - We all had fun scratching them off and I ended up winning, $330.00 off the tickets.  I probably had put in about $50 worth of losing tickets but I gained that back plus extra and it was just a lot of fun finding out that I had won and the excitement of seeing if any of the tickets were winners was great.

4. Usually you see people walking their dogs but have you ever seen someone walking their.....

Pet Goats!

5.  I wait all year for the local strawberry season to start and so for the last couple of weeks we have been enjoying these lucious berries.

In other news...I finally joined the ranks of Smart Phone owners.  Boy has that been a "learning curse I mean curve" for me!  I've accidentally taken "selfies", dialed my granddaughter while she was in school, called my daughter and didn't say anything because I didn't realized I had called her, hung up on an important call because I pressed a wrong button and the list goes on.

Finally for FELINE FRIDAY

Harley wasn't feeling well yesterday and he spent most of the day sleeping, I caught this unusual pose of him while he was sleeping.

Fond this video while searching for songs about Cellphones and just had to share it. - Hoping I don't become like this.
