Willy Nilly Time

If you are here looking for my GOOD FENCES post click on the link.

Time now to join Tanya (Around Roanoke) for WILLY-NILLY FRIDAY FIVE.

1. I spotted a new "Art Sculpture" (?) while out at the Ducky Derby Race.  I snapped a photo of it.  The piece is titled:  Untitled No. 2  - It's a pretty odd piece of art work.  Not particularly my favorite.  What are your opinions.

2.  Coleen spotted another find out on one of our walks.  She found this pod thing on the ground and asked me what it was.  I had no clue but it came from a tree and when we looked up we discovered this:

I took some photos then went home and Googled..."trees with yellow and orange blooms that look like tulips."  That's when I learned this is called an American Tulip Tree.  Yesterday another blogger Miyako (Orchid's Daily Voice) posted some photos of this type of tree.  You might want to check her post out too.  It will be towards the end of the post.

3.  I've mentioned how every year we have a woodpecker come and peck on a nearby telephone pole for hours (it seems).  Well recently the woodpecker was back but this time he brought a friend.  Sorry but this is the best quality photo I could get.  I'm not sure what type of a woodpecker this is either.

4. On the way home from the store one night Coleen and I spotted this in someone's parking strip area (that's a patch of grass between the sidewalk and the street for those not familiar with the term.)  Actually the hive was apparently in a tree on the property but they had placed a hive on a ladder on the sidewalk.  I drove home quickly and got the camera to take some pictures.  This is one of the photos I took.

5.  Last night was Coleen's spring Piano Recital.  She played quite well this time and didn't seem to nervous.

Her piece was called, The Little Waltz.  She's going to take the summer off from lessons and begin again in the fall.  Thought you would enjoy seeing another shot of her taken after the recital.

We sure think she's growing up fast and we're proud of her for being such a sweet and loving child.

Are you ready for cuteness...beside's Coleen?

Bandit enjoying his first taste of Whipped Cream.  He loved it!

The winning caption from last weeks CAPTION THIS:

Thanks Marie.  Marie blogs at A Colorful World.

On Monday I will have a Poll up with all the Caption This photos for last month for you to vote on.  -  There won't be a photo this week.  Check back on Monday for further details.

Have a great weekend.

  2. good one, marie!

those are downy woodpeckers on the power pole. :) that sculpture looks like a cartoon rooster crossed with a rabbit - sort of a foghorn leghorn/bugs cross. :)

The new kitty is getting spoiled - right thing to do, eh? :)

For some reason, the first photo reminds me of Garfield The Cat!

  6. #1 I have never been able to understand why creative people make things and give them such dumb names.
#2 Often the flowers of Liriodendron tulipifera are so high in the tree that they are hard to see, mighty pretty.
#3 I love woodpeckers until they start pecking the cedar siding on my house. Bad woodpeckers.
#4 Around here you parking strip is called a "tree lawn."
#5 I remember going to many piano recitals that my oldest daughter was in.
    #6 Your dishwasher?

  7. About the woodpecker, I think it is a downy woodpecker; I had the female visit my feeder last year- no sign of her yet this year. The tulip tree is Indiana's state tree; it's also known as the yellow poplar. I'm glad to see Willy Nilly; I'd been away about a month recovering from shoulder surgery. Nice set of photos.

  9. I don't know what to say about the sculpture. They say art is in the of the beholder. Congratulations to Colleen for doing well in her recital. I admire those who can play a musical instrument.

  18. What an adorable child and so accomplished doing a piano recital. Hope she has a fabulous summer. As for the unique untitled art in the top photo with the bars connecting one side to the other … it looks as if it would also make an interesting towel rack. :)

  20. Yay for Coleen! She's adorable. Bandit is a cutie, too. The sculpture might be a bit more intriguing if it had a name. Tulip trees are beautiful in bloom.

  21. A tulip tree? well that's pretty cool. I'll have to check that out.
our little kitty discovered whipped cream too the other day when some little munchkin left their uneaten pancakes on the table, and Cashew hopped up to have a taste.

or, maybe it was the maple syrup? LOL

  22. It always amazes me how the little woodpecker can do so much damage to a big tree trunk. Your Coleen is very pretty!

  23. Interesting photos from the various walks of yours! First time hearing about tulip tree and seeing its flower. Coleen look very smart and intelligent and i liked both her photos.

  24. Love the photos - oh those woodpeckers, they are so pretty and so noisy. Congratulations to Coleen's piano recital. She is growing up into a lovely young lady.

And I think the sculpture looks like a crazy Woody Woodpecker. For myself, I prefer my sculptures to look like something real.

  25. I'm not fond of that kind of sculpture either -- just my preference. I DO prefer that lovely tulip poplar blossom -- how lovely! We have them down here too, and I've felt the same way about those blooms ... so surprising! Colleen is lovely. Good for her, for playing the piano. Not as many kids do that anymore. That's neat that you have a beehive nearby. It's quite a lesson to watch them work, and see how the keeper manages the hive. I wonder if they will pull honey from it?

  26. First of all, congrats to Coleen. She looks so pretty and very confident/at ease during the recital. Love Spooky Boo and Bandit, of course. It's fun to watch a kitten taste new to them foods! I remember those tulip trees from my parents' house. I'm not much on that first sculpture...just too unusual for me! lol
Hope you all have a nice week.
