Friday Fun - July 24, 2015

It's Friday and since Tanya is on break from Willy-Nilly Friday Five I thought I'd go ahead and post my Five Things anyway for you to enjoy.  Plus I'll join in on a few other fun memes.

I have another "theme" post here today.  See if you can guess what the theme is.
1.
Bees Flying into a bee box

 2.
P-17 Flying Fortress - Wings of Freedom Tour - We went to the airport to see the planes but I captured this shot as the planes were leaving.  This was over my mom's house.

3.
Tiger Swallow Tail on Thistle - Mill Creek Drive  (I've been waiting all summer to capture a butterfly photo and finally got one.)

4.

Pelicans Flying over Mill Creek - I've got more photos of these amazing birds that I need to share.

5.

Dragonfly on Rocks - I'm not familiar with the name of this dragonfly though.

6. - Bonus as it still fits the theme. - Joining (Life's Sweets and Spices) here for Orange You Glad It's Friday.

I spotted this Food Truck while heading out on a drive and had to stop and take a picture of it.  It's not often you see a bright orange truck like this one.

So did you all guess my theme?  (Things With Wings)

Also joining Hilary for Follow Friday for Fill-In Fun.

The statements:
  1. I love the _____
  2. ___ isn’t my favorite _____
  3. I always cry____ .
  4. I used to ____ but I ____
My Answers:

1.  I love the time I spend visiting so many wonderful blogs and learning new things from them.

2. Summer isn't my favorite season.  - It's way to HOT here for my taste.

3.  I always cry at things like Parade's or Weddings or Graduations.  I'm very sentimental.

4.  I used to enjoy making handmade cards but I rarely take the time now to stamp and make cards.   I should get back into it though as it's fun and relaxing.

Willy Nilly Time

If you are here looking for my GOOD FENCES post click on the link.

Time now to join Tanya (Around Roanoke) for WILLY-NILLY FRIDAY FIVE.

1. I spotted a new "Art Sculpture" (?) while out at the Ducky Derby Race.  I snapped a photo of it.  The piece is titled:  Untitled No. 2  - It's a pretty odd piece of art work.  Not particularly my favorite.  What are your opinions.

2.  Coleen spotted another find out on one of our walks.  She found this pod thing on the ground and asked me what it was.  I had no clue but it came from a tree and when we looked up we discovered this:

I took some photos then went home and Googled..."trees with yellow and orange blooms that look like tulips."  That's when I learned this is called an American Tulip Tree.  Yesterday another blogger Miyako (Orchid's Daily Voice) posted some photos of this type of tree.  You might want to check her post out too.  It will be towards the end of the post.

3.  I've mentioned how every year we have a woodpecker come and peck on a nearby telephone pole for hours (it seems).  Well recently the woodpecker was back but this time he brought a friend.  Sorry but this is the best quality photo I could get.  I'm not sure what type of a woodpecker this is either.

4. On the way home from the store one night Coleen and I spotted this in someone's parking strip area (that's a patch of grass between the sidewalk and the street for those not familiar with the term.)  Actually the hive was apparently in a tree on the property but they had placed a hive on a ladder on the sidewalk.  I drove home quickly and got the camera to take some pictures.  This is one of the photos I took.

5.  Last night was Coleen's spring Piano Recital.  She played quite well this time and didn't seem to nervous.

Her piece was called, The Little Waltz.  She's going to take the summer off from lessons and begin again in the fall.  Thought you would enjoy seeing another shot of her taken after the recital.

We sure think she's growing up fast and we're proud of her for being such a sweet and loving child.

Are you ready for cuteness...beside's Coleen?

Bandit enjoying his first taste of Whipped Cream.  He loved it!

The winning caption from last weeks CAPTION THIS:

Thanks Marie.  Marie blogs at A Colorful World.

On Monday I will have a Poll up with all the Caption This photos for last month for you to vote on.  -  There won't be a photo this week.  Check back on Monday for further details.

Have a great weekend.

Willy Nilly Time

Happy Friday! - Let's join Tanya (Around Roanoke) for some WILLY-NILLY FRIDAY FIVE fun.

1.  I spotted this piece of Southwestern art in someone's yard and stopped to take a photograph of it.  I think it's pretty cool looking.  I like Southwestern type art so I decided to look around for some on Google and well my mind wandered from one sight to another and eventually I found this place:
https://www.etsy.com/shop/BarbedWireArtist  It's of course very different art from this piece but I liked it.  On Page 4 is my favorite piece, The Bull Rider.

2.  While out looking for some new fences to share on (Good Fences)  I came across this flowering bush that produces bright orange berries in the fall.  I stopped to take pictures of the blooms and captured this bee.  As I said my mind wanders...and I begin to think about expressions like, "Busy as a Bee." and decided to look up where it came from.  I didn't find that one but I did find some others you might find intersting.  Check them out here:
http://www.phrases.org.uk/meanings/animal-phrases.html

3.  I've been saving this photo (though I'm not sure why) for some time now.  One night we had "Breakfast for Dinner" and this was my hubby's plate of food.  I would never put ketchup on my eggs.  Of course hubby isn't allowed to eat all this kind of stuff now due to the heart issues but he does indulge in just a little of it now & then.  Like I've mentioned today I'm all over the place with Willy-Nilly stuff and since yesterday as I was at the doctor's I discovered Food Art I'm sharing this website with you.  This lady knows how to have fun with Banana's.

4.  Tomorrow is our annual Ducky Derby race.  I need to go buy my ducks today.  It's all for a good cause but one of these years I'd like for my duck to win the race.  You can check out more about this event here:

A shot from last year of one lone duck making it's way down stream to the finish line.

5. I had put my CAPTION THIS on hold for awhile since not very many were participating.  I'll give it another go around here today.  Here is this weeks photo for you to give a caption.  You'll have 1 week to do this.

I'll pick a winner on Thursday and announce your blog on Friday if you have the best caption.

BONUS:

6. We've officially fallen in love with our new little kitten, Bandit.  He goes in today for his 8 week shots.  I thought I'd share a fun shot of him and Harley asleep on the couch.

If you are up for some fun and interesting cats check out this website:
http://www.boredpanda.com/famous-cats/  You'll be charmed for sure.

This is also being shared for FELINE FRIDAY hosted by Steve (The Burnt Food Dude).

Have an awesome weekend.

Songongraphy (I want to Break Free) and Scavenger Hunt Sunday - September 8, 2013

Welcome:  This post will include (Song-ography) and (Scavenger Hunt
    Sunday)

Won't you join me as we go on a musical journey called,  Song-ography brought to you by the uber talented Kathy, You'll Shoot Your Eye Out.

This weeks song:  I Want To Break Free by Queen.

I went through some of my photos and found one of a lone seagull in a clear blue sky that I liked.  To me the soaring bird exudes,  Freedom!
Since the original lacked that pizzazz I wanted I added a cloud texture to the shot that just made it have the perfect feel that I was looking for.

I won't wax philosophical about being "free" but I am sure that all of us have something in our lives that we want to "Break Free" from at one time or another.  I hope whatever it is in your life that you find the freedom that you are seeking.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Now it's time to join Ashley (Ramblings and Photos) for Scavenger Hunt Sunday.

This weeks prompts:  Labor Day/Work, Phone Call, Pill(s), Up Close and White Space.

LABOR DAY:  Okay this photo was actually taken Labor Day weekend and features Coleen on one of the Fair Rides.

PHONE CALL:  For this shot I told Coleen to pretend she was talking on the phone while I took pictures.  She complied and I was snapping away.  After I uploaded the shots I decided to go with this one...

After so long of a time without dialing you get that annoying lady who tells you that if "You'd like to make a call, please hang up and try your call again."  Well she must have came on and Coleen was looking into the receiver and telling her to, "Be Quiet and Go Away".  I thought it was much funnier and cuter then her pretending to talk on the phone so I went with it.

PILL:  Pills aren't just for humans:

Our kitty, Snickers has to take these.

UP CLOSE:  Coleen's Cherry Tomato's.  Check out that tiny one.  It looks fairly large in the photo but it was actually barely the size of her pinkie fingernail.

WHITE SPACE:  This one always throws me.  I'm never sure if I've got it right or not.  I'll include the 2 shots I have and you let me know if they qualify for the "White Space" photography idea.

That's it for this weeks hunt.  I hope you have enjoyed your stay.

Scavenger Hunt Sunday - June 16, 2013

Welcome to the hunt,  that is....Scavenger Hunt Sunday

Before we get started I want to give a shout out to all the dad's out there.  Even though mine's been gone 15 years I still miss him and will remember him by taking some flowers out to the cemetery today.  To my hubby as well,  Happy Father's Day!!!

This weeks prompts:  Summer, Dance, Laughter, Helper & Water.  Click to Enlarge

SUMMER:  Summer means many different things to people.  One of my favorite things about summer is being able to enjoy Strawberry Shortcake with fresh, local strawberries.  Yum!!!!

DANCE:  Last Sunday the kids did a few special songs complete with motions and this is one of the shots I took of them dancing around on stage.

LAUGHTER:  This shot could have fit 3 of the prompts all rolled into one but I chose to use it for laughter.

HELPER: - You might wonder what this next shot has to do with being a "helper" but I believe nature helps mankind out.

WATER:  Again not what you normally would think of for a water prompt but it works.

Pineapple, Blueberry, Banana sparkling water with fresh blueberries.  Coleen and I enjoy flavored carbonated water and this is one of the many flavors available.

Have a great day and don't forget to spend some time with your dad if you have him around still.  Life is short so cherish the time you have with your parents.

"Whatever" Wednesday - Green Metallic Bee Edition

Hello! Well we're half-way through another week and so far this one has been a bit hectic.  Monday we had to take one of our cats to the Vet.  She apparently developed a UTI and was put on medication.  Exams and Medications...$354, Yikes!!! I am happy to report though she is doing much, much better.

I've had these photos for a few months just waiting around for some challenge to use them and then I thought why not just post them for my Whatever Wednesday feature.

I spotted these 2 little Green Metallic Bees on my Evening Primrose plant one afternoon and snapped a bunch of photo's of them.

Notice the bee on the left.  Look at the Pollen on his leg.

You'll see just how much in the next couple of photos.

See what  I mean and how he was even able to balance on the edge of the petal with all that weight is beyond my comprehension.

It wasn't just one leg ethier, both were pretty loaded with pollen.  Makes you wonder how he could fly with a load like that.

Finally I like this next shot because of the detail on the bee's face.  It's like he's looking at me and saying, "What are you lookin at!"

Don't you just love the wonderful shiny metallic green of their bodies next to the bright yellow of the Primrose flower.

Have a wonderful day.

Macro Monday - July 2, 2012 The Flower and The Bee

It's been quite some time since I've done a Macro Monday so I thought I'd pop in today and join in on the fun.

I took some pictures of some pretty white flowers on a bush outside the Swimming Pool where Coleen is taking her lessons this morning.  I don't know what kind of bushes they are but I'm guessing they might be a type of Hydrangea because they look a lot like them.

This next shot is my favorite.  It has an added bonus.  See if you can guess what it is!

Don't forget to visit Lisa's blog and check out some of the other Marco Shots.
Have a great week.
