Willy Nilly Friday Five - September 25, 2020

 Hello & Welcome.

Joining Tom (The Backroads Traveller) for WILLY NILLY FRIDAY FIVE today.

1. While on our walk a few weeks ago this little quail appeared for a brief moment. I managed a couple of quick shots before it scurried off into the blackberry bushes.

2.Our daughter Greta celebrated a birthday this month.  She's pointing to the candles on the cake because the flames would match the color of the candles.

3.Spotted this Praying Mantis looking in our kitchen window (yes I know they need washed) so I went out and took it's picture.

A few days laughter Coleen and her friend found a green one and wanted me to look at it so I took it's picture too.

4.  Our cat, Harley is NOT a lap cat and we are always trying to coax him onto our laps.  Coleen has had the best success.  He actually got up on her lap the other night and let her comb him. (He loves being brushed and combed.)
5.  Finally after all that horrible smoke and haze from the fires it rained.

Bonus shot:  It's time for another baby fix - Little Joelle is growing and we think she is cute as can be.

Willy Nilly Friday Five and Feline Friday

Yikes!  Summer is going by so quickly and I've not posted much about it.  Seems like I'm so busy trying to keep up with yard work, housework, taking care of my mom etc..that I barely have time to breath much less blog.  I miss it,  so every now & then I manage to do a post just to let you all know I'm still alive.

Joining Tom (The Backroads Traveller) for WILLY NILLY FRIDAY FIVE
and Sandee (Comedy Plus) for FELINE FRIDAY

1. June was a nice cool month and we had a nice surprise on June 29th with a tiny rainshower and a rainbow.  This is the best shot I could manage of the rainbow....

Others were much luckier.  You can view their shots HERE and HERE

That same evening the sunset was just wonderful and I snapped this shot of it:

2. Drove up to Bennington Lake one evening and spotted these colorful kayaks out on the lake.

3.  I also found some Queen Anne's lace to photograph.

Here is an "artsy" edit of the same photo.

4.  On the way out of the lake I spotted a Quail sitting on a fence post.  I quickly pulled into a nearby turnout and quietly got out of the car and got as close as I could without spooking the quail.  I've always wanted to get a shot of a quail like this.  Sadly I didn't quite get the quail in good focus but it's not a bad shot and I'll keep working on getting just the perfect shot of a quail.

5.  We didn't go out of town over the 4th of July but we did manage a picnic at one of the local parks.  Below are shots of us having a good time.

6.  Bonus shot of one of the many hanging baskets in our down town.

Now for FELINE FRIDAY....

A shot of Bandit watching one of the other cats.  He has such gorgeous eyes.

It's a HOT one here this week.  The high today is expected to be 102 so I'm leaving you with this musical selection.

Have a great weekend.  For those of you in the "Heat Wave" areas stay cool and safe.

Wild Bird Wednesday

Welcome!

Today I'm joining Stewart, (Paying Ready Attention) for WILD BIRD WEDNESDAY

I so seldom get to post for this meme but this past week I had a chance to view several different wild birds and get halfway decent photos of them.

First up:  Quail

These birds just make me laugh...they are comical in the way they run as you can see in this shot.

There were bunches of these quail eating at Rooks Park and I actually got close enough to get a few photos before they all took off into the underbrush. - These birds are quick! - We think these Quail are California Quail.  They were much larger then the smaller quail we often see in this area.

Next we have: Canadian Geese

This photo isn't a super sharp shot of the geese but I liked it and as you look down Mill Creek you can see just how many geese were out and about.

Next it's my (Mystery) bird from the previous post.  Although many have stated they believe the bird to be an Osprey. - I had my camera set on BW when I happened to spot this large bird flying and didn't think to change the setting so the shot is in Black and White.

Finally as we were leaving the park we met a man going into the park with a camera.  I spoke to him about spotting this bird and he told me that there was a White Egret in the area and handed me his business card.

We drove to the area he mentioned he had just photograghed the Egret at but didn't see it.  So instead we decided to drive a little further up the road to Bennington Lake and there we spotted the Egret!

This was as close as I could get but I think it turned out okay.

Here is a link to Mr. Davis photos of the Egret. - Thanks for letting me know about the Egret.

Hope you have enjoyed my Wild Birds.
