Random 5 Friday

Hi! - Well my goodness it's been a busy month.  I've missed the last couple of Random 5 Friday so today I thought I'd pop in with a few random thoughts.  Nancy from, A Rural Journal hosts this fun little meme so be sure to pop on over and check it out.

1.  What season is this supposed to be?  According to the calendar Autumn started on Sunday.  According to my Azalea Bush  Spring is here instead.

A few of the buds for next spring decided it was warm enough now for them to mature, open and bloom. - I'd say this bush is just a bit confused.

2.  Wildlife in our neighborhood is interesting to say the least.  Tuesday my mom found a turtle in her front yard!  She brought it inside and put it in her bathtub and then we called around to find out what we should do with it.  Our neighbor had found it a couple of days earlier and put it in a little creek nearby.  Apparently the turtle wasn't happy there and crawled back out.  After checking around we were able to take the turtle to the city park and released it into one of the protected ponds there.

3.  Traveling isn't as easy as it use to be.  I think I'm still recovering from last Friday's trip down to the Oregon Coast and back on Sunday.  Still I'm glad we went.  If we hadn't I might have missed this funny moment.

I'm not sure what was so funny but my niece certainly thought something was funny.

4.  Got caught in a thunderstorm the other night.  I went to the store and it wasn't raining when I went inside.  It started to rain just as I left the store.  Then it turned into a torrential downpour.  I had flip-flops on and no coat.  Thankfully hubby had just got home when I pulled in the driveway and the sweet guy that he is he got me an umbrella so I wouldn't get soaked getting back into the house!

5. I love the cooler temperatures and being able to enjoy a nice hot bowl of mom's fixing for lunch today.  I know lucky me, I don't have to fix lunch today.  Thanks mom!

  1. Go Mom!!! To Autumn, To Chili...HAPPY FRIDAY! Aloha

  2. LOVE these pics & your blog! I'm a new GFC follower :)

and what a happy wedding image!!

  4. the hubby & i saw a neighbor's azalea bushes blooming like crazy just this week - & we laughed - too funny how nature & plants work some times.

great photos this week. ( :

  5. That is a sweet capture of a wedding moment. Nice.

  6. I am so excited it's fall! I am making my first pot of soup of the season!

  7. Nice to get a blossom this time of year. Beautiful pic! The wedding looks beautiful.

  8. Beautiful bride & groom and such a pretty backdrop for the wedding. We are enjoying the beauty of fall weather but not the allergies that come along with it!!!

Hope the turtle likes his new home.

  9. mmm chili is a favourite of mine too - garden is busy time here with hot spring days=more weeding and watering; how sweet of your azalea to pop one more flower for you as you cool off. I loved the wedding photo. Travelling is weary - I've done around 2,000 klms in the past week/inland N.S.W. and back home.

  10. Hello Ida, my new Friday random friend. :) That photo of your niece's wedding looks fantastic. It looks like the epitome of happiness to me. It's been a while since I've driven down the Oregon coast; I usually don't make it much past I remember how much I loved it though so maybe it's time to plan a return.

  11. Cute candid shot of the bride & groom...and yes, lucky you that your Mom prepares chili for all to enjoy!!

  12. What a wonderful person your mom is to take a turtle she doesn't even know and let him bathe in her tub! And then she fixes you chili! Yes, ma'am, you are one fortunate person! My mom doesn't cook anymore!

Thanks for stopping by my blog and giving me encouragement to keep blogging. You are a dear blogging friend!!

  13. Ida, your out of season azalea is just lovely! We do have a lot of yellow blooming around here. So maybe your plant is not too confused. The wedding on the beach looks so sweet! I'm glad you had a good trip!

  14. I have given up trying to figure out what plants should be blooming and when!

Since I have discovered that most plants have been cross-bred to bloom any time of the year, I just enjoy them when they show up!

  15. Love your images this week Ida and happy you joined in at R5F. That hubby of yours is a sweetie! :)

  16. Oh my...that last shot is just priceless! Great capture!

  17. We had the same story with our tree (magnolia) last fall too.
I am glad that you enjoyed your trip to the wedding. The pictures you shared are beautiful! :)
Mom's chili sounds very heart warming and delicious. I miss my mom cooking.

  18. I enjoyed reading your random 5. What a wonderful wedding photo. They do look happy..

  19. hi ida, i love all your images today, but that bottom one is stunning!
your photos make me always happy with their beauty and charm..

hope you have a great remainder of your weekend~

  20. That's a great picture of your niece. Maybe one day they will share that story.
We have an encore azalea that's supposed to bloom spring and fall, though not as profusely in the fall. And it's PINK. Looks so out of place in a fall landscape, though I tend to be happy with any blossoms that appear.
How sweet of your mom to make lunch for you. Chili sounds good!

  21. Wasn't that rain we had something? We had to take the dogs out for exercise and it was kind of fun, but you have to stay out of the woods when it's windy for all the falling branches. We had record rainfall. I loved it! Funny about your azalea. I have a rhododendron doing the same thing. Seems a little early for them to be this confused already.
