I'm Still Alive and a Kitty Update

Wow it's been over a month since my last post.  - I'd like to let you all know I'm still alive.  I must admit February was a horrible month for me.  We had so much snow and bad weather and I found myself falling into being,
"depressed" for much of the month.  That usually isn't something that I have to deal with but for some reason this year it really got to me.  Anyway I hope to get back on track posting again and visting your blogs.

So today's post is a "warning" to people to be aware of what could happen if you don't pay attention to what you are doing.

This is our sweet Caramel.  She looks pretty normal here but this photo was taken just after bringing her home from the Vet last Friday morning.

So why was she at the Vet? - Well around 2:30 am Friday morning my hubby started yelling that something was wrong with her.  I jumped up out of bed to find him struggling with her and seeing his hand all bloody.  Needless to say it was scary as I tried to help grab her before she bolted under our bed.

It took me nearly an hour to get her out from under the bed and locked into our bathroom.  Hubby said she had been choking on something so he jammed his finger into her mouth to try and clear whatever it was.

I spent the rest of the night staying in the bathroom with her trying to keep her calm.  We don't have an "On-Call" Vet here at night anymore and would have had to drive over an hour away to have her seen that night.

So Friday morning at 7:30 I called our Vet and was able to take her in right away.

After I got back home I got a call from the Vet about 20 minutes later.  When they looked in her mouth they discovered what the problem had been.

She had found a needle and thread and it had been stuck in her mouth.  When hubby shoved his finger in her mouth it ran the needle through her tongue and into her cheek area.  The poor thing had that needle in her mouth for 5 1/2 hours.

We wondered how she had gotten a needle and thread until I remember that about 3 days earlier I had removed a sliver from my hand and forgot to put the needle in a draw.  Thankfully she didn't swallow it and they were able to remove the needle and the thread.

She was on Pain Med for 3 days and Antibiotics as well.  I am happy to report she is doing quite well now.

Here is a picture I took of her when she was bathing and you can see where the needle went through her tongue.

Just a few of the many scratches and bite marks that hubby received while trying to save her life.

Please note that it is so important to try and stay focused at all times so that accidents like this don't happen to your pet.

Gottcha Day

Today is Caramel Honeybun's "Gottcha Day."

But before I share her photos.  Last month was,  Pepper's "Gottcha Day" and I forgot to post her picture so here goes:

That's Pepper when we first got her in August of 2015.  She was a kitten that someone had "dumped" and left to fend for herself until we mananged to catch her and bring her inside.  She adopted Coleen as her "person" but we all lover her very much.

Her she is today: This is a (Composite) shot I took of her yesterday.

Here she is with Coleen:

Now here is Caramel's photos:

Caramel as a kitten.  Look at those big ears and all that "kitten fuzz."

Here she is today:

She's grown into a beautiful cat.

Just for fun...

Happy "Gottcha Day" to Caramel and Pepper.  They are certainly well loved and keep us entertained.

Willy Nilly Friday Five - April 27, 2018

Joining in on WILLY-NILLY FRIDAY FIVE (just a bit late).

It's been a super busy and hectic week.  More on that in a minute.

1.  Remember last week's WNFF Jurrasic Park Car....see post below.  Well they invaded the fair grounds.  Here's one of them trying to eat the Education Building.

2.  Saturday we got a new bed and mattress.  Sunday Speedy the cat got sick.  He ate Easter Grass, Candy wrappers & ribbon.  Had to spend Monday at the Vets doing a $360.00 Barium Study to make sure nothing got stuck in his intestines.  He's fine but the Vet bill over $400 wasn't so much fun.

On the left, Caramel enjoying the new bed.  On the right, Speedy G recovering from his trip to the Vet.

3.  A sure sign of spring around here is when "Woody" the woodpecker returns to peck on the telephone pole next door.

4.  Another sign of spring...When my mom's French Lilac tree blooms and perfumes the air.

5.  Finally on Tuesday Coleen had her knee surgery to repair the tendon in her knee that hold your knee cap in place.  She's doing okay but mastering crutches  has been a challenge for her.

Needless to say between taking care of a sick cat, an 89 year old mother and a kid out of surgery the week hasn't exactly been a barrel of laughs but we are surviving.

Till next time...Have a great day.

 Caramel Honeybun enjoying some "bubbles"

Good Fences, Little Things to be Thankful For

Joining Gosia today for Fences Around The World

Nothing fancy hear today - Just a simple wood fence, some bamboo & bamboo plants.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Also joining Tamar for LITTLE THINGS THURSDAY

It's the "little things" like Strawberry Rhubarb Crunch (with a nice scoop of Vanilla Ice Cream) that make me happy.
Recipe found HERE - It's so delicious.

and Michelle for:  THANKFUL THURSDAY

Thankful for the joy & fun that all our animals bring.

Sharing a shot of Cricket (our Pug) and Caramel watching her.

We don't normally allow Cricket in with the cats as she tends to chase them but we are starting to get them use to her being in the room with them as it's not fair to the dog to never be allowed in the living room with everyone else.  As you can see Caramel is a bit leery of Cricket but she didn't run and hide and Cricket didn't chase any of the cats so I think the new socialization is going to work.

Willy Nilly Friday Five

Happy Friday! - Summer is here and life continues to be busy.

Joining Tanya Today for WILLY-NILLY FRIDAY FIVE.

1.  One of my blogging friends, (M.K. - Through a Glass Darkly) has posted a couple of time about her husband and his "accidents"  That last one he hurt his hand (HERE) and then early this month she posted an accident of her own (HERE) - So I'd like to make her feel a little better by sharing that on Wednesday I got a call from my hubby saying he was back in town.  He was supposed to be up in the mountains building a deck so I was a bit suspicious about why he was back in town so soon.  His reply...I'm on my way to the ER, I was cutting some wood and it kicked back and sliced my hand open.  Here is is injury in all it's Glory or should that be...Gory!

2.  Last year for May Day my hubby bought me a small blue Hydrangea plant. I've never had much luck growing them as they usually die during the winter months.  Here is a photo of last years plant..

The plant was such a pretty blue color.  We had a super cold spell this past winter and tons of snow so I pretty much figured the plant was a goner.  Low & behold this spring I noticed a small plant next to the stake I had put near the bush and it turns out the bush survived the winter.  It doesn't have near the big bloom on it this year and this year it's.......

Purple!  -  It's still very pretty and I'm so excited that it actually survived the winter.  I hope it makes it through again come this winter (which I dread).

3.  Every year my niece calls me to let me know when the Pelicans I've posted about before (Here )  arrive near her house.  I went up the other morning to see if I could find any of them.  Sadly there were only 3 present along with a ton of seagulls but it made for a nice bird photo to share.

4.  Recently on June 9th Adam West (aka Batman - The Original) passed away.  Since he was born here in Walla Walla and attended Whitman College they are trying to get a statue of him as Batman erected here in town.  In the mean time the Marcus Whitman Hotel is shining the "Bat Light" every night to honor his memory.

5.  Just because I haven't shared a cute photo of Caramel Honeybun lately.....

Playing in the newspaper I had taken out of some boxes of stuff I was unpacking. -  She's just so adorable!

Edited to add...The other day I received an Automated Phone call from Direct TV for my mom's account (I used our number for her account since she doesn't hear that well) - The voice said,  "This is Direct TV with balance information on your account.  You have a Past Due balance of......
Zero Dollars and Zero Cents.  - What!!!! - Everyone says I should send them a check for that amount.

Have a great weekend & thanks for stopping by.

Late for the Party

Welcome! - Yes it's Saturday and I'm late for the Party....What party?  - Well how about Good Fences Around the World & Willy-Nilly Friday Five.

Busy week....no excuse.

  Up first for GOOD FENCES

Spotted this decorative piece on a gate while out on a walk this past week.

I think it dresses up the plain wooden fence nicely.  Don't you?

Next to the pretty orange ball they had this sign:

Of course there were no fresh cut flowers because it's still winter here and about the only flowers growing now would be early crocus.

Now let's join Tanya (Around Roanoke) for WILLY-NILLY FRIDAY 5

1.  It's time once again to sign up for the Teacup/Mug Exchange hosted by Stephanie from: The Enchanting Rose blog!!!

This is always so much fun.  You get to make friends with the person you send to and the person who sends to you.  It's so exciting when your package arrives, just like Christmas.  It's also a lot of fun picking out items to send to your partner.  You won't want to miss this so go sign up now.

2.  Coleen had to dress up in 80's fashion for a school project.  We are on a limited budget so had to find things she already had to work for the theme.  Here is what she & her mom came up with.

I think they did an awesome job.

3.  The winter was super hard on the roads here in "Wally World" (aka Walla Walla) -  Our street was a mess...pot holes, up rooted asphalt etc....they came the other day to do a "temporary" fix on the road.

This was part of the crew working on the road right in front of my mom's house and our house.  They just put down gravel and won't put new asphalt until late March or early April.  Not much of an improvement but better than nothing at all.

4.  Hubby was sitting at the table the other day and said to me:  "I think I may need you to wash off the back of my head."  -  I said,  "Why?"
He said, "Well a board hit me in the back of the head this morning while I was working and I think it might have some dried blood on it."

So I go look and told him,  "You are going to the ER to have that looked at right now."  He's like,  "No it's fine."  But being the nice wife that I am I said, "To bad, go get it checked out."  He did....

Here is the cut on his head before on the left & after they cleaned it up on the right.

Thankfully no concussion, no stitches needed (they glued it).  It's sore but he's lucky it wasn' t worse.  Men!

5.  Finally I leave you with a little video of our sweet kitty,  Caramel playing "fetch."

She is such a silly little thing and we love her to pieces.

Have a great day & thanks for stopping by.

Friday Fun - Good Fences, WNF5, Little Things Thursday.

Hello & Welcome! - Yes I'm combining several Memes in today's post.  - I will go in "Alphabetical Order" so you can easily find the Meme you are looking for.

Up first GOOD FENCES - Hosted by Gosia (Looking for Identity).

Spotted this barbed wire fence last week when I took a little nature walk during a fairly nice winter day.

Also a photo from December 2016 - The neighbor across the streets fence and the tress from the other neighbor made for a pretty winter scene.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
LITTLE THINGS THURSDAY  hosted by Tamar from (Randomosity).

I haven't shared any pictures of our newest feline edition (aka Miss Caramel Honeybun) for sometime now so I thought today would be a good day to show you how much she's grown since her got her back in September of last year.

Here she is laying so nicely on our bed.

I love her markings, especially the cute little black spot by her eye.  Everyone wants to try and wipe it off because they think it's dirt or eye crust but it's just a little dot of black fur that gives her character.

She has a favorite toy, a little catnip ring (that looks pretty beat-up) that she actually plays "fetch" with us with it.  You throw the ring, she chases it and retrieves it and brings it back to you to throw again.  It's so cute and so much fun.  You have to be careful though because when you try to grab the ring to throw it you have to try and do so without her nailing you with her sharp little claws.
She is certainly a fun edition to our family.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
WILLY-NILLY FRIDAY FIVE hosted by Tanya (Around Roanoke).

1.  Our family enjoys watching the PBR (Professional Bull Riding) and last week the winner of the event was a young 20 year old named,  Derek Kolbaba who just happens to list his home town as,  Walla Walla, WA.   One day last year while my daughter Greta was getting gas at the Cenex station she noticed his truck there and got brave enough to ask him for an autograph to give me. - Wasn't that sweet of her.

Here is the video of his winning ride last week.  He is one of my favorite riders along with Mike Lee who I've been watching for the past 16 years.  It is a tough sport but quite exciting to watch.

2.  It tried to snow here again this week - UGH!!!

Thank goodness it only last about 15-20 minutes and didn't stick around long.  We still have some snow on the ground from the huge snow storm in early January.  I'm hoping that darn Ground Hog won't see it's shadow on February 2nd.  I'm so ready for spring & I bet a lot of other people are too.

3. We've been watching a new show on NBC - Emerald City which is a bizarre take on, The Wizard of Oz.  - It's interesting but also very strange and at times somewhat dark and disturbing.  Here is a bit of the show for you to see what I'm talking about.

If you have checked this show out, what is your opinion?

4.  Lots of birds have visited the feeders this year,  I keep spotting a large Woodpecker on the ground eating but everytime I go to get my camera it flies off. - Also the geese have been coming & going all winter long.  Took this shot of some geese at Millcreek last week on my little nature walk that I mentioned above.

5. Finally - More books I've been reading.  I like to read a variety of Genres of books.  (Mystery, Suspense, Romance, Comedy & Sci-Fi/Fantasy) to name a few.  I discovered a Sci-Fi Fantasy series that I've really enjoyed.

The books are:  The Paper Magician, The Glass Magician and The Master Magician by: Charlie M. Holmberg.  You can find them here on Amazon:

I've really enjoyed all the books even though the reviews of the 3rd and last in the series weren't quite as favorable as the first two books.  I'm about a third of the way through the last book and so far I'm finding it just as enjoyable as I did the first two in the series. - They all deal with Magic and the people who control it.

Well that's it for me this week.  I hope you've enjoyed all the photos and the videos. - Trying to ward off a cold as my hubby has been sick for a week with it and I really don't want to be sick.  Take care & have a great weekend.
