Willy Nilly Friday Five - July 31, 2020

Hello everyone.  Thank you so much for all the nice comments about my being back blogging again.  Still not up to speed yet but doing better at posting a little more often.

Time for WILLY NILLY FRIDAY FIVE hosted by Tom the Backroads Traveller. - Apparently not many have been participating lately so let's hope you all get in and join the fun.

Today it's Birds, Blooms & a Butterfly for me.
 1. Earlier this spring I spotted a few duck sitting on top of the neighbors fence across the street.  She sat there for quite awhile.  I snapped a bunch of shots of her.

Shortly after this shot some people were walking past and a little girl stopped to look at the duck.
She stayed right there and then after they past by she finally flew off.
 2.  Missed sharing these from earlier in spring when the dogwoods were in bloom here.  These were taken the night after my mom passed away.  I went for a walk around the block and the sunset was so pretty so I snapped a couple of shots of the white dogwoods with the sunset in the background.

3.  Also from earlier in the spring a lovely Norther Flicker Woodpecker visited our driveway to eat ants.

4. This rose bush use to be in my flower bed but it had problems and wasn't blooming very well so I was going to dig it up and throw it away.  A lady renting the house next door at the time wanted to plant it on her side of the fence.  Wouldn't you know it the darn thing took off and blooms like crazy now.  Thank goodness I still get to enjoy it.

5.  Remember last weeks Pelican shot (Yakety Yak) - Well here are some more of a group of 2 Pelicans that I spotted another day in June. - Be sure to click on them to enlarge.

Lastly a bloom and a butterfly (for you mom).

For your musical selection I leave you with this Eagles song which I think should be played over loud speakers every day, every where.

Have a great weekend.

We took a drive this week up Tollgate to the lake where my hubby is doing some work on a cabin up there.  Today's photos are from that trip.

1.  First up, a view of the Blue Mountains from the E.J. Haney Viewpoint.  Notice the crows in the trees on the right.

2.  We stopped at the Tollgate Store to get some snacks and outside the store was this (weird) metal sculpture.

It's a badger catching salmon.  After researching I'm not sure if this was a Bear or a Wolverine but it's not a Badger as they are much cuter that that.   It looks really ferocious and scary.

3.  One of the fancier cabins on the lake.

You have to be a member to use the lake and there is a gate with a code that you need to get inside as people actually live there year round.

4. We didn't see any deer on the way up (except for some horses which I made the mistake of saying, "Look at those big deer" before I realized they were horses) now I'll never live that one down.  Yes I do know the difference! - Anyway while we were looking at the lake this lovely deer was just walking by and munching on grass.

It seemed almost "tame" and hubby says it's there almost everyday.

5.  Some pretty wildflowers growing by a post on the ground.

6.  Can't leave hubby out since he's the reason we took the drive.  Here he is hard at work.

7.  On our way out we spotted this little family happily swimming on the lake.  I'm not sure what kind of birds these were but I'm "guessing" perhaps some type of a Loon.

All in all a very pleasant drive up and back.

Now for FELINE FRIDAY

Today we have, Speedy G just lounging around.  I love how he lays with his paws spread out in front like that.  He has to sometimes because he has such a big fat belly...see the next shot.

We call him,  "Sumo Kitty" because of that belly!

He has such a sweet little face that I just couldn't resist sharing this shot too.

Leaving you today with a lovely musical selection to enjoy

One of my favorite songs by the Eagles....I hope we all have a Peaceful Easy feeling type of weekend.

Thanks for stopping by.

Friday Fun - Sept. 22, 2017

Welcome!

Today is the "official" First Day of Autumn (Fall) here in the US.
One of my all time favorite seasons and it has been a beautiful day here.

So today I'm joining Tanya (Around Roanoke) for WILLY-NILLY FRIDAY FIVE

I went to Rooks Park today to take some pictures and I'm sharing some of the photos I took while I was there.

1.  I spotted a large bird flying in the air as I was walking through the park.  I managed to get a shot of the bird in flight but I'm saving that for another post. (I know rats....) - Anyway the bird landed in a tree and I was able to get some shots of it.

This is as close as I could get with the lens that I had on the camera.  The bird is some type of a hawk I believe. - Edited to add,  I now believe this bird is an Osprey rather than a Hawk.  Any birders out there to help with identification let me know.

  - Later on in this post you'll see another picture of this bird.

2.  A sign that Autumn is in the air...

3.  Just a pretty shot of the clouds and one of the trails in the park.

4.  A photo of some Queen Anne's lace in bloom. - What caught my eye was the tiny hint of "lavender" in the center of the bloom.  - That's a bit unusual.

5.  On the way out I noticed these little rock cairn formations.

6. Okay for my bonus photo...I caught another shot of the hawk in flight and after I uploaded it to the computer I noticed something cool in the shot.

Be sure to enlarge the photo for better detail.

Do you see it? - The bird has a fish in it's talons!  My first ever capture of a bird with a fish.

Also joining in on FRIENDLY FILL-INS on McGuffy's Reader.

Week 72: September 22, 2017

1. I would never be friends with someone who _______________.

2. I will never refuse ________________.

3. I have never been to                     , but                              .

4. When it comes to                            , I                              .

My answers:
1.  I would never be friends with someone who cuts down others to make themselves appear to be better. - That really annoys me.

2.  I will never refuse a helping hand when I'm stressed out.

3.  I have never been to Hawaii, but I have been to Canada.

4.  When it come to housework, I tend to procrastinate as long as possible.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Finally for FELINE FRIDAY (being hosted on Comedy Plus)

It's Caramel Honeybun - Checking something out that caught her attention.

Friday Fun

Welcome! - Posting today for several Memes. - Click to Enlarge Photos.

 GOOD FENCES AROUND THE WORLD:

A plain board fence that caught my eye.

WILLY-NILLY FRIDAY FIVE:

1.  Did some baking again recently.  This time it was Blackberry Pie Bars.
Oh so yummy!  Recipe found here on The Novice Chef.

2.  Spotted this on a recent walk

Are you in the mood for fall & Halloween Decor yet? - I'm getting there.

3.  Spotted this while out on a drive:

That's one "wild paint job!"

4.  Spotted this on another drive around town:

How cool is that! - Took a close-up and used for my 52 Frames photo for the week Unexplored.  You can see the album here:  This was the photo I used for that week:

Edited to include this shot for Orange You Glad It's Friday.

5.  I love coffee mugs of all kinds.  - I spotted an owl mug recently and had to buy it.  Then I realized that they had several different mugs so I went back and bought one for my hubby, one for my daughter, Greta & one for my granddaughter, Coleen.  They are pictured below.  See if you can figure out which one is my mug.  Make a guess....

Now if you want to know...From Left to Right - My Mug is the one on the left, then Greta's is next, Coleen's is the Red Mug and Mike's is the one on the far right.  - They make me smile!

Finally For FELINE FRIDAY - Hosted for awhile on Comedy Plus.

It's Callie-Jo taking a rest on my purse.  - By the way Callie-Jo has recovered completly from whatever ailment she had a few weeks ago.  That makes us all very happy!

Willy Nilly Friday Five

Happy Friday!

Joining Tanya (Around Roanoke) for WILLY-NILLY FRIDAY FIVE

1.  My mom & I took a drive up a back road the other day so I could get some pictures of the valley but it was so overcast you really couldn't see it that well.  We did spot more deer in the same field we did last year so I had to take pictures of them.  Yes they were quite far off and even with my zoom you can't seem them that well.  Can you tell how many are in the shot?

Be sure to click to enlarge for a better view. - The answer is at the end of the post.

2.  We had a beautiful sunset the other night.  I walked down to the school (about 2 blocks) to get this shot so it would be free of power lines.

3.  I was on my way to the store the other day when I noticed this house was getting some new roofing.  Of course it's been pretty rainy here lately so they haven't exactly started on the roof yet but all the shingles are up there.  I just happened to think it was unusual to see them wrapped in purple plastic.  Naturally I had to get a picture.  This is for you Debbie (It's All About Purple)

4.  Coming back from the bowling alley on Wednesday I saw something running across someone's lawn and thought, "What is that?"  I managed to pull over and get my camera out and snapped a couple of pictures.  Sadly they weren't the best of pictures but you'll get the general idea.  It was a squirrel...so what's so unusual about that you might ask?

Well this one was a mutated squirrel.  Instead of it being brown it was a pale tan color with white splotches and a white face.  It was over cast and I was parked where I shouldn't have been parked so you'll just have to make do with the shot that turned out the best. - Believe me it was one "weird" looking squirrel.

5.  Finally today the wind has been blowing at a steady pace.  Coleen and I drove to Safeway to get lunch and on the way we noticed a street closed sign.  Now around here that usually means they are working on the streets but in this case it meant this....

A large fir tree blew over and took out a branch of a birch tree as well.  We walked up, being careful of the downed power lines and snap a few shots.  I'm just sharing this one for now.

Answer for the number of deer in photo: (14).

Finally to join Steve (BF Dude) for FELINE FRIDAY...
