Good Fences and Little Things Thursday

Welcome! - Hope you are having a good day.  I've been sick all week with that horrible cough where you feel like your guts are going to be ripped out of your chest every time you cough.  I've chugged down a ton of Tea with Lemon & Honey in it and am slowly returning to normal.

So today I'm joining Gosie (Looking for Identity) and Tamar (Randomosity) for:

GOOD FENCES AROUND THE WORLD - and

LITTLE THINGS THURSDAY.

 

 

First up for Good Fences:  I offer two different seasons (Fall & Winter)

 

Spotted these gorgeous fall trees and a rock wall last fall and realized I hadn't shared them yet.

 

 

I love the bright cheery colors here.  Perfect to help ease up "winter blahs" for those of us still suffering through the woes of winter.

Speaking of those "woes of winter" here is what happened January 31st here in my neck of the woods.

Yep more snow (about 3-5 inches)...believe me I am so ready for winter to be over.  However I did think it looked pretty as I lay in bed watching it come down outside. 

So now for Little Things Thursday.  -  I've been thinking lately about how our actions, thoughts & words can make a difference in the way people view the world.  So much (negativity) is about today.  People are rioting, protesting, complaining etc....and quite frankly it's just getting tiring.  So I thought why not try to be more postitive.  Why not try to find good in the world and encourage each other.  Regardless of who won the election, or your beliefs about race, religion, politics etc....there are still good things to be thankful and grateful for in the world. 

So my thought today is to offer you encouragement that the world is still a beautiful place and that we must do our part to build each other up and not tear each other down.   It's a "little thing" that can mean a great deal to someone else.





Good Fences #85 - Eaglecap Fences

Hello & Welcome.
It's time for some GOOD FENCES hosted by Theresa, (The Run-a-round Ranch Report)

Today I'll be sharing some fences taken on our recent (Oct.17) trip to Elgin, OR to ride the Eagle Cap Excursion Train. - Mind you all of these shots were taken from a moving train (which had dirty windows) so they aren't the best quality photos but I think they turned out okay.

 Both of these deer shots were taken just as the train started moving out of town.  The deer are actually standing in peoples yards.

 Not exactly sure what this gate is used for.  Those of you who "ranch" will know what it's for.

 Saw this beat up sign and an old moss covered fence post and had to get a photo of it.

 Lots of barbed wire fencing along the way. - I like this shot because of the bright red post and the lovely "bokeh" that is in the photo.

 We passed an RV park along the way and I snapped this photo of the fence around it. Note the picnic tables on the left side of the photo.

We pulled into a small town an I snapped this charming little gate.

I spotted this fence on a hillside as we were heading back into town on the return trip.

 Here is a scene heading back into Elgin, I thought the trees were really pretty and spotted that old house behind the fencing so I zoomed in for a closer look at it.  Guess what.....

 It's "abandoned." - I think it looks really moody in this shot.

Today's Things to be Thankful For:

1.  Being able to take this train ride (my first time on a train) and getting some great photos.

2.  Good Fences

3.  Wildlife - We saw, Deer, Turkey & my most favorite of all a Bald Eagle!

No fence in this shot although there was one is another photo of the eagle that didn't turn out very well (blurred).  Taking a photo of a Bald Eagle was on my "bucket list" so I am sharing this today along with my fence shots.

4. Good Friends,  My friend (Teresa) from Spokane is visiting today so I'm looking forward to spending time with her.

5.  That my cat (Captain Cuddles) is starting to get better.  He has a bad case of Feline Acne that we are dealing with.  It's starting to clear up but having to wash his chin every day is hard on him so I'm happy that it's looking better and the antibiotics the Vet gave him are clearing up the infection from the clogged pores. 

I will try to get by your blogs this weekend.  Since I have company today and tomorrow Coleen is having surgery I'm not sure when I'll be able to pop in but I'll get there sooner or later.

Good Fences - Vines and Snow

It's a very nasty weather day here today, schools are closed and roads are an icy nightmare. So I'll be staying inside with a nice cup of hot coffee and joining in on the fun of GOOD FENCES hosted by Theresa from the (Run-a-round Ranch Report.)

I spotted this vine creeping through the chain link fence at my mom's house a couple of weeks ago (before the cold snap hit) and thought it looked cool and would make for a great entry for Good Fences so I snap a few photos of it.

I just love the curly tendrils.

Next I made it outside one day after our snow arrived.  Which by the way didn't amount to more the 1-2 inches but the darn stuff has stuck around on the ground due to the below freezing temps we've had here.  Anyway I decided to photograph the top of the chain link fence that borders our property and the neighbor on the other side of us.

Finally I spotted this magpie flying off with a peanut and of course it flew right near the neighbors fence that lives across the street from us so how could I not include this shot.

Of course I'd rather we were back to the weather in the vine shots but I'm afraid that's not happening any time soon.

Scavenger Hunt Sunday - November 16, 2014

Lets get started on this hunt:

IN A ROW:

 Coleen and I stopped at the High School this week so I could take a picture of something else and then I spotted this out in the field and figured it would work great for the "In a Row" prompt.  This is one of those things they use for football practice.  I have no idea what they are called though. 

SALTY:  This one is a BIG stretch...

Tiny little flakes of salt or rather snow on Eric the cats head remind me of salt so that counts, right?

 

 

SWEET:

 



Coleen is a sweet little girl and her she is holding a very sweet lookiing turkey cookie.  Which I might add she said was so hard (the cookie) that she ended up throwing it away after eating about half of it.

SITTING DOWN:

I snapped this shot of Helix sitting down in the snow this week.  He doesn't seem to mind being out in the cold but then again that's all the life he's ever known as his owners don't bring him in out of the cold and no he's bascially on his own.  We feed him and try to make sure there are blankets in our shed to help keep the outside kitties warm during the winter.

JUST BECAUSE:

I spotted this tree when I took Coleen to her piano lessons and had to snap a picture of it, "just because" it was so gorgeous.

1.  Most of my long time readers know that I am not a huge fan of winter or snow.  So it comes as no surprise that I wasn't to thrilled with yesterdays snow fall.  Coleen on the other hand loved it.  Here she is this morning enjoying a little time outside before heading off to school.

2.  A friend of mine sent me a link to where you can find out where all the gorgeous fall colors are in each of the states.  While it's too late to visit these areas now the pictures are worth looking at and it gives you a reference for next year.  Check it out here:
Here is a little of our own fall foliage and also one from today with the snow on them.

I think I prefer the warmer one for sure.

3.  If you enjoy snow you might want to make some paper snowflakes to decorate you house.  Here's a place for learning how to make paper snowflakes.  http://www.wikihow.com/Make-a-Paper-Snowflake .

4.  It's now "Soup" weather and who doesn't like a nice hot bowl of soup on a cold and snowy day.  We had this soup the other night and it's delicious.  I alter the recipe though as we don't like that much tomato taste so instead I used Cream of Mushroom soup in place of the tomato.  I also added some cabbage to the vegetable mix.  - So here's a fun LINK to some silly resturant names you might enjoy.

5.  Did you ever make snow icecream when you were a kid?  I loved that stuff and would you believe there are actual recipes on how to make it.

My Answers:

1.  I just don't have enough time in the day to get everything done that I want to.  Anyone else have that problem?

2. Snow is not my friend I mean...snow is beautiful!

3.  If I could, I would move to a warmer climate in winter.  I say that every winter but I've lived here all my life so I doubt I'd really go through with it if I could.

4.  Melting snow makes me SMILE :o)  -  It's not melting that fast but in about a week it's suppose to be back up in the 40's and raining so it's not going to stick around that long.


See I really am trying to embrace winter weather with a more positive attitude.  I still don't like it but hey you might as well try to find something positive about it because it's that time of year.
