Willy Nilly Friday Five - March 4, 2016

Welcome!

It's Friday and time to join Tanya (Around Roanoke) for some
WILLY-NILLY FRIDAY FIVE randoms.

1.  I'm out taking a walk the other day and as I walked past the steps to a church I happened to notice this copper kettle sitting on the stoop below the stairs.  I just thought it was really an odd place for the kettle to be sitting so I snapped a photo of it (just because).  It made me think of Soup Kitchens for some reason.  If you click on the link you can read about the history of soup kitchens.  It's quite interesting especially since Al Capone even set up a soup kitchen.

2.  Huh? - Coleen and I spotted this graffiti on our walk yesterday.  Does anyone have a clue what kind of a statement they were trying to make?

For some fun check out this link (Art Crimes:City Walls) which will take you to various links for Graffiti around the world.

3.  I took another walk around the Whitman College campus the other day and happened upon another sculpture that I was not familiar with.  I snapped this photo of it.  It's called "Moongate" and you can read more about it by clicking on the link.

They certainly have some interesting pieces of art on the campus.

4. We've had some really nice days lately with temps in the mid-60's.  The sun was shining through the kitchen window the other day and I happened to snap this cute shot of our cat, Bandit enjoying the sunshine.

So for fun I decided to do a little editing and share with FELINE ART FRIDAY

Here is the edited version:

5.  Finally since spring is just around the corner (16 more days) I thought I'd share a fun little Fairy that Coleen and I spotted hanging from a tree while on one of our walks.

Have a beautiful day!  Thanks for stopping by.

Scavenger Hunt Sunday - March 15, 2015

Welcome! - Gosh it's been quite some time since I've participated in Ashley's (Ramblings and Photos) meme,
SCAVENGER HUNT SUNDAY and I've missed it.

This week I just happened to have managed to find all the prompts:  Time, On My Plate, Animal, Negative Space and Photographer's choice.

TIME:  You get 2 photo's for this prompt as I couldn't decide which one to use.

This clock tower on the Whitman College Campus gives you a 4-way look at what time it is as there is a clock on all 4 sides of the tower.

It's "Nap Time" for Eric the Cat.

ON MY PLATE:  - Let's make that Coleen's Plate

We had Tuna Burgers and baked potatoes for dinner the other night.  She turned hers into an "Alligator."  She makes food a lot of fun.

ANIMAL:

This squirrel was watching me putting out peanuts and bird seed very patiently the other morning.  I was so close I could have reached out and touched him.

NEGATIVE SPACE:

I really like how the "negative" space in this shot draws your eye towards that pretty open bloom.

PHOTOGRAPHERS CHOICE:

I took Coleen to the annual WWCC (Walla Walla Community College) Cowboy Breakfast and Kid's Rodeo today.  After breakfast we wandered through the horse barns and I snapped some pictures.  I took a few in Black and White and this one is my favorite.

I hope you've enjoyed the hunt and will check out the other participants.

It's Willy-Nilly Time and a few other things.

Happy Friday! - What a week it's been.

Let's get started celebrating the weekend by joining Tanya
for Willy-Nilly Friday Five.  I'm including 5 Random photos that may or may not have anything to do with my Willy-Nilly 5

1.  Every year since 1974 there is an annual Hot Air Balloon Stampede here in May.  This year ZERO balloons went up due to bad weather conditions.  The new organizers of the event want to move it to October in hopes of better weather conditions.  Today was a "test" launch and several balloons went up.  Sadly my camera is acting up again and doesn't want to focus on sky shots (anyone have any idea why?) but I managed to get a few decent shots.  This is one of them.

2.   Long Story being made as short as I can. Two weeks ago I called a TV company about Coleen's TV not working.  They told me that it was a problem with the Access Card and it would need to be replaced so they would mail me one.  After several days of the card not arriving I call the company up again.  They said apparently the Postal Service had lost the card and this time they would send me one by Fed-Ex - Overnight.  In the meantime the mailed card finally arrives but I don't want to use it because they are coded and I was afraid it wouldn't work since I was suppose to get another one via Fed-Ex.  Yesterday I call the company again, they have no record of the one being shipped over-night.  I'm on the phone with a Technician for an hour and we still can't get the card that came in the mail to work.  Finally he tells me that they are going to have to send someone out to our house.  That guy arrives, looks things over and says he'll just switch out the entire box and that the problem had nothing to do with the Access card.  He fixes the problem and leaves.  About an hour later the doorbell rings and what should show up.  The card from Fed-Ex!    -  Now you know part of what my week has been like.

Full view of the fountain on Whitman Campus.  A section was featured last Sunday in the Scavenger Hunt for the prompt, Saturated.

3.  It's been raining here off and on all week long.  These clouds were taken earlier in the week before the rain started.  I thought they were pretty.  Much nicer then the gloomy gray of the sky today.

4.  We love to drive around and find fun Halloween decor.  Spotted these ladies and just had to take their picture.

5.  A friend sent me a bunch of pictures in an e-mail the other day of odd looking vehicles but I couldn't find the link to where she got them.  Instead I found another one and thought you might enjoy THIS:  Which one is your favorite?  I like the Peanut one and the Lobster one.

One of the paths at Bennington Lake that you can hike on.

See I told you the photo's would not necessarily match the 5 thoughts.
I've had a bit of a "Willy-Nilly" week so I thought my post should reflect that.

Scavenger Hunt Sunday & Sunlit Sunday

Welcome!  Thank you to all of my new followers and of course my old ones as well for visiting and commenting.  You help to make my day a little brighter.

Won't you please join me for SCAVENGER HUNT SUNDAY hosted by Ashley (Ramblings and Photos).

This weeks prompts:  Camouflaged, Nutty, Old Style, Haphazard, Monochromatic.

CAMOUFLAGED:

Well this little kitty really isn't "camouflaged" but he sure blended in well with his surroundings.  -  This is a new neighborhood kitty I spotted a few weeks ago across the street.

NUTTY:

Salted Pecans qualify as nutty and yummy too!

OLD STYLE:
I had no idea what this meant exactly so I edited a photo to give it an "old style" vintage look. It was overcast and somewhat foggy here today which helped to give this just the right feel for the old style vintage edit.

HAPHAZARD:

This looks like a bunch of yellow boxes stacked haphazardly on top of each other.  It's actually a metal sculpture on the Whitman College campus entitled, Balancing Act. - This was taken last month but never shown on the blog.

MONOCHROMATIC:
I couldn't decide whether I should use this or not as it's not entirely monochromatic but I thought it was close enough and it turned out so cute I decided to go ahead and go with it.

Coleen's leopard hat up against my leopard blanket and our tan curtains all blend together in monochromatic tones.

Also joining Karen (My Little Home and Garden) for SUNLIT SUNDAY.

We actually had a little sunshine this week!

I happened to venture outside and captured this little guy enjoying the sunshine. I love the sunshine that seems to make his tail sparkle.

and this one of our cat, Miss Dottie enjoy a bath in the sunshine.

While I'm not participating this week I would also like to mention a great meme to visit is Kathy's - SONGOGRAPHY.

Photo Art Friday - February 7, 2014

Welcome! - It's time to join Bonnie (Pixel Dust Photo Art) for Photo Art Friday. - I missed January's edition so I don't want to miss this months.

The theme for this month is:  Graphic/Geometric/Angular.

Here is what I came up with.  Click to Enlarge - Original Photo's will follow the edited piece.

                                                "Space Rocket"

This is actually a metal sculpture on the Whitman College Campus titled:
(Angkor IV, 1995, Lee Kelly.) -  It reminded me of a rocket so I went with some edits from  Pic Monkey to give it an "outer space" feel.

                                              "Space Landing"

This one is actually really titled, (Pirouette, 2004, Micajah Bienvenu '86.)
Again edited in Pic Monkey with various techniques.

Finally something a little less space minded.

One of the buildings on the campus.  I used Bonnie's texture: Palazzo and then added a Cloud texture from Pic Monkey and a few other effects.

So that's it for this edition.  Do stop by Bonnie's blog and check out all the other participants.  You won't be disappointed.

Song-ography the "Brave" edition and Scavenger Hunt Sunday

It's time to join in on the fun of SONGOGRAPY
hosted by the talented Kathy from, You'll Shoot Your Eye Out.

This weeks song:  Brave by Sara Bareilles.

You can be amazing
You can turn a phrase into a weapon or a drug
You can be the outcast
Or be the backlash of somebody’s lack of love
Or you can start speaking up
Nothing’s gonna hurt you the way that words do
And they settle ‘neath your skin
Kept on the inside and no sunlight
Sometimes a shadow wins
But I wonder what would happen if you

Say what you wanna say
And let the words fall out
Honestly I wanna see you be brave

With what you want to say
And let the words fall out
Honestly I wanna see you be brave

You might be wondering what this photo has to do with being, Brave.  What I took from the song was the line about "Saying what you wanna say and letting the words out."  If you look very closely at the graffiti on the wall right below the words (cat eyes) in faint red ink are the words,  BE YOU!  I think that is the bravest thing of all.

Now it's time to join Ashley (Ramblings and Photos) for SCAVENGER HUNT SUNDAY  -  This weeks prompts were:  Happens Everyday,
Upside Down, Natural, Man-Made and Looking Down.

HAPPENS EVERYDAY:  Well I'm sure it happens everyday (somewhere) and it generally happens everyday here.  Birds sit in the tree branches waiting for their turn in the bird feeder for the seeds I leave out.

UPSIDE DOWN:  This one I struggled with.  I had wanted Coleen to hang upside down at the school playground but she just wasn't into that today.  Finally after walking around outside I spied a watering pot hanging upside down on a broken tree branch against the side of our house.

NATURAL:  - You get 2 for this prompt because I couldn't decide which one I liked the best.

Ivy growing naturally on a tree
or...

Moss growing naturally on the back neighbor's storage shed.

MAN-MADE:  Coleen and I took a walk today and ended up at the Whitman College campus.  Where we found this man-made (or in this case woman made) horse sculpture.  You can read about the artist HERE:

LOOKING DOWN:  I'm not really big on heights anymore so I wasn't about to look down from any great height for a photo.  Instead I went with a photo of Coleen looking down at her music from her Piano recital (her very 1st) that we attended last night.  Which by the way she played beautifully! We were so proud of her.

That's it for this week.  Please stop by both Kathy & Ashley's blog and check out the other participants entries. -  Have a great week.
