It's Friday and time to join Tanya (Around Roanoke) for some WILLY-NILLY FRIDAY FIVE randoms.
1. I'm out taking a walk the other day and as I walked past the steps to a church I happened to notice this copper kettle sitting on the stoop below the stairs. I just thought it was really an odd place for the kettle to be sitting so I snapped a photo of it (just because). It made me think of Soup Kitchens for some reason. If you click on the link you can read about the history of soup kitchens. It's quite interesting especially since Al Capone even set up a soup kitchen.
2. Huh? - Coleen and I spotted this graffiti on our walk yesterday. Does anyone have a clue what kind of a statement they were trying to make?
For some fun check out this link (Art Crimes:City Walls) which will take you to various links for Graffiti around the world.
3. I took another walk around the Whitman College campus the other day and happened upon another sculpture that I was not familiar with. I snapped this photo of it. It's called "Moongate" and you can read more about it by clicking on the link.
They certainly have some interesting pieces of art on the campus.
4. We've had some really nice days lately with temps in the mid-60's. The sun was shining through the kitchen window the other day and I happened to snap this cute shot of our cat, Bandit enjoying the sunshine.
So for fun I decided to do a little editing and share with FELINE ART FRIDAY
Here is the edited version:
5. Finally since spring is just around the corner (16 more days) I thought I'd share a fun little Fairy that Coleen and I spotted hanging from a tree while on one of our walks.
1. Have you ever noticed how cats seem to enjoy cramming themselves into cardboard boxes. This one was on the floor the other night and several of the cats decided to get inside. This is Harley one of the "larger" cats we have. I love how his paw is draped outside the box.
Did you know "Big Cats" like boxes too? - Check out this video
So I'll also be using this photo for FELINE ART - Altered to this version:
2. We haven't had a lot of snow here this winter (I'm so thankful for that) but we have had some and lots of rain lately. A couple of weeks ago I showed photos of Bennington Lake and the mountains but I did share this shot I took. It's part of the lake itself.
I don't think many people are going to head out onto the lake with thin ice but hey the warnings signs are a good thing.
3. During one of the better weather days last week Coleen, her mom & I took a little walk around the neighborhood. We spotted these bushes in someones yard. The white things looked a lot like blooms from a distance but actually turned out to be white berries. Reminds me of popcorn. It could also remind one of snow I suppose. Sort of "artsy" I think.
If you like snow and art check out this LINK - You'll be amazed for sure.
4. Last week Coleen turned 11 years old. Hard to believe she's almost a teenager. - With part of her birthday money she bought a watch. On the way home she suddendly says: "Well that was rather insulting!" - I'm think what are you talking about so I ask her.
She replies: "The box says, This is NOT a toy. Not intended for children under the age of 12!" Yep, I'd say they goofed on that warning for sure.
This is her and her mom laughing before she blew out the birthday candles.
5. Finally I was nominated yesterday (McGuffy's Reader) for a Quote Challenge - I love adding quotes to my photos so I had to participate in this one.
I've always liked that quote by Anne Frank every since Junior High (now known as Middle School) when I read the book, The Diary of Anne Frank.
It amazes me that even with all she went through and dying at such a young age she was so wise beyond her years.
The rules of the challenge are simple. They are as follows:
1. Post for three consecutive days. 2. Choose and share one or three quotes each day. 3. Challenge three additional bloggers each day.
It's time for some random fun with WILLY-NILLY FRIDAY FIVE hosted by Tanya (Around Roanoke).
1. Something funny (at least I thought it was) that my friend sent me.
2.
We drove up to Bennington Lake last week and I snapped a couple of shots of the surrounding farm land and the Blue Mountains. These are my favorite shots from the drive up there.
3. Signs of spring already?.....
Robins! - Photo also taken at Bennington Lake.
4. I ordered a new CD the other day The Traveling Kind by Emmylou Harris and Rodney Crowell. Thought you might enjoy a selection off the album.
5. I haven't done any cat art for FELINE ART here in a while so how about this one of Pepper lounging in the laundry basket:
She is a really hard cat to photograph. Her jet black fur and those odd golden colored eyes make it difficult to get a picture of her face. Thank goodness she has that little white streak on her nose.
Original Photo SOOC
Well that's it for me today. - Nothing real exciting going on around here, just day to day stuff but that's okay as I'd rather have it calm then chaotic.
It's time for some random Friday thoughts - (aka) WILLY-NILLY FRIDAY FIVE hosted by Tanya from Around Roanoke.
1. One of my favorite things in fall is when the stores get those really nifty looking decorative gourds in stock. I was out at Klicker's store the other day and lookie what I found:
Aren't they colorful and fun! - These probably aren't the type of gourds that you could use for Gourd Art but check out this link to see what fantastic things people do with Gourds. Talk about talented.
2. Last night was the Carnival for the kids at the school Coleen attends. One of her favorite things to do is to try and "dunk" her teachers in the Dunk Tank. I just love watching the expressions on her face as she prepares to throw the ball.
Unfortunately this year she didn't hit the target once to dunk anyone but she still had fun trying.
3. We stopped at our city park the other day to take some pictures and I just loved how pretty these flowers were. It's still good to see flowers blooming even though we are heading into Fall now.
4. Coleen and I stopped at the library last week to check out some books. Outside the library they have a couple of murals painted on some buildings. We really liked this one.
One of the books I checked out was: Murder Simply Brewed by Vannetta Chapman. - It's a good, clean murder mystery that I'm really enjoying.
5. So have you ever ordered Pizza On-Line? - I have and yes I've actually had some problems with ordering it that way. Anyway this commercial is for Little Ceasers Pizza and cracks me up because it reminds me of our house even though we don't have "that" many cats.
Of course you I can't end the day without sharing a cat photo so here's one for your enjoyment.
Bandit and Pepper taking a snooze together. Look how they are draped off of the chair. You'd think their necks would be sore from laying that way but they don't seem to have a care in the world.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I haven't participated in awhile with Hilary for FOLLOW FRIDAY FOR FILL-IN FUN so I thought I'd join in today.
Here are the statements:
The statements:
Birthdays are ______________________
I am ___________, but I wish I was _________.
____ is my favorite ______.
________ is the best brand of __________.
Here are my answers:
1. Birthdays are going by to quickly anymore. The older you get the faster they seem to come.
2. I am rushed lately, but I wish I was able to be more relaxed.
3. Bridge Over Troubled Water is my favorite song of all time.
4. Celestial Seasonings is the best brand of Herbal Teas.
That's if for this week. Hope you've enjoyed your stay here. Have a great weekend.
There will be a lot going on in this post today. Be sure to read the entire post for the different memes. (Feline Art, Feline Friday, Six Word Fridays and Willy Nilly Friday Five) - I promise you they are all here. I do this so as not to have to create several posts.
1.Today is a day that will forever be etched in my memory. To all who died that day & to all who serve to protect our rights and freedom I thank you.
2. Thought I would share a cute photo of this baby tiger that they had on display at the Fair last week. It was part of an exhibit from the Walk on The Wild Side animal rescue in Oregon. Click on the link to read more about this place. Coleen loved this exhibit and adores animals of all kinds. She would like someday to work with helping to save animals.
3. We had rain last week and it was wonderful. I took a shot of the raindrops on one of my roses and just wanted to share it with you.
This made me think of the line from Mary Poppins - Raindrops on Roses and Whiskers on Kittens. - These ARE a few of my favorite things.
4. I walked out the front door the other day and was scared by a really shrill cry of a bird. Looking around I spotted this woodpecker sitting on the telephone wires. I'm not sure what type of a woodpecker this is so those of you who know can help me identify it. - I've seen it a few times eating some of the seeds/corn we leave out for the birds and squirrels but it always flies off before I can get a picture. This time I got lucky.
5. Sharing a piece of carnival art. The side of one of the rides at the fair. Don't they look like a fun loving bunch!
Joining Adrienne (My Memory Art) for SIX WORD FRIDAYS. - The prompt this week was, Green.
I'm not very poetic at times so today I searched for a quote that would fit the (6) word theme and found a photo in my archives that I really liked and paired them together. Below is the result.
I am also including this You Tube Video of my favorite song about the color green.
This is our neighbors cat, Ghost whom we've sort of adopted and taken under our wing. We feed him and recently took him to the vet because he had an abcess on one of his paws. Oddly our Vet will not allow us to have him neutered even though the owners signed a paper stating we could. They said we'd have to claim ownership of the cat and tell our neighbors etc....which is so stupid. We've been taking care of him since he was a kitten basically feeding him and such so he's pretty much our cat. We'll find another way to have him neutered because he needs to be as it helps to control the unwanted pet population.
Have a fantastic weekend and thank you for stopping by.
1. While the official start to Fall/Autumn isn't listed on the calendar until September 23rd I've spotted signs that it's rapidly approaching.
2. Summer isn't over yet though and these colorful chairs just seem to invite you to sit for a spell and enjoy the last lazy days of summer.
3. We had rain this week - Hallelujah. It really helped with some of the wild fires still buring in the area. I was out for a photo hunt and took some pictures of these rain soaked dahlia's in someone's garden. I still think they look beautiful.
4. We drove back out the other day to see if we could spot the bucks that were featured last week on WNF5 but they weren't around. However this sweet little Fawn was.
5. It's Fair week here. I took Coleen out today so she could enjoy the rides.
Bonus shot just because....Spotted this old truck in someone's driveway.
